Woman in Mental Distress Threatens Rescuers with Knife After Car Crash
Picture from responders. Rescue services in Trat Province were called on September 15, to situation where a 38-year-old woman, referred to as Ms. B, drove her car into a drainage ditch near Makro on Sukhumvit Road. The incident took a frightening turn when she refused assistance, brandishing a knife and displaying erratic behavior. Local rescue teams were initially unable to approach Ms. B, who was holding a fruit knife and threatening anyone who came near her. Concerned for her safety, they called the local police for backup. The situation grew more complex when her 18-year-old son and a 69-year-old man, identified as Mr. A, arrived at the scene. They informed authorities that Ms. B had been suffering from depression and had consumed alcohol before the crash. As Ms. B remained agitated and uncooperative, police and rescue teams observed her from a distance for about 10 minutes, hoping she would calm down. Despite the public gathering to watch the scene unfold, Ms. B continued to wave the knife, making it impossible for rescuers to intervene. Mr. A, who had known Ms. B for years and had given her the car involved in the crash, explained that she had been battling depression for over a decade. He revealed that this wasn’t the first time Ms. B had struggled with mental health crises. With careful planning, police officers instructed Ms. B's son to try to soothe her, using the distraction to their advantage. While they conversed, police officers cautiously approached the car. In a moment of opportunity, as Ms. B switched the knife from her left hand to her right, officers swiftly grabbed her hand and disarmed her. Even then, the situation remained tense as Ms. B resisted being taken out of the vehicle. It required the combined strength of five officers and rescuers to safely remove her from the car. She was subsequently taken to Trat Hospital for treatment. Ms. B's brother, Mr. Thammanoon, confirmed that his sister had been battling depression for over a decade and had previously attempted suicide several times. He expressed his relief that she was once again saved but remained uncertain about what triggered this particular incident. The rescue operation, which could have ended in tragedy, was successfully resolved thanks to the cooperation of Ms. B's family and the quick actions of the police and rescue teams. -- 2024-09-16 -

Fare difference fee
Would take less than 5 mins for him to check the flight prices for the revised dates and see if there is a $500 difference, which there likely is. If there is not.... an email asking why the extra $500 flight charge would be a resonable course of action. -

agent to renew driving licence
I have an agent that takes care of the medical cert. There is an eye test at the licensing office that checks for color blindness and they always have that hokey reflex joke, but I never waste my time at a doctor's office. -

Looking for Tips to attend the Singapore GP
I am going to attend the Singapore GP this year and this will be the first time I will be attending an event in Singapore. I have been following F1 for a few years and I understand there are usually a lot of events happening throughout the race weekend in and around the race track. I was looking on the internet and found out there are many events happening for fans at the upcoming Singapore GP as well. This list of events looks pretty impressive but if someone knows some other events happening on the race weekend around the Marina Bay Circuit, please do share it here. Thanks -

agent to renew driving licence
There are requirements that you pass an eye exam, peripheral vision, various reflex tests, get a medical certificate, complete road safety training and be photographed for your new driver's license. Highly doubt you would be able to have an "agent" stand in for you. Edit: I see Safety First's post above. Amazing Thailand. I live out in the countryside. Have to wonder whether that service is doing things totally above board. -

Israel’s Special Forces Ground Raid Destroys Iranian Missile Factory in Syria
That sort of response usually means you are intellectually or morally unable to reply. So I'll repeat the question which should be answered with one word (yes or no), but always stumps anti-Semites and causes them to run: Does Israel have the right to exist behind secure borders as the homeland to the world's Jews? -

Temporary Steel Bridge in Wang Thong Collapses as Sand Truck Attempts to Cross
Picture courtesy of Sukhothai Highway Department In an incident during the morning of September 15, a temporary steel bridge in Wang Thong, Si Samrong District, Sukhothai Province, collapsed when an overloaded sand truck attempted to cross. The Sukhothai Highway Department has since announced a complete road closure and advised motorists to take alternative routes. The incident occurred on Highway No. 1195 between Tevet Nai and Wang Mai Khon. The bridge, which was built as a temporary solution after flooding damaged the road, gave way under the weight of the truck. The vehicle plunged into the water, causing significant damage to the structure. Authorities had previously placed warning signs at the site, prohibiting vehicles over eight tons from crossing. Despite this, the sand truck exceeded the weight limit, leading to the collapse. The Sukhothai Highway Department is currently assessing the damage and working on a repair plan. -- 2024-09-16 -

Thailand issues four major announcements on new visa measures
The Ministry of Interior of Thailand has issued four major announcements on new visa measures since July 15, 2024. These measures are intended to enhance the tourism industry, attract foreign investment, and bolster local businesses and communities. New Visa Categories and Extensions: 1. Destination Thailand Visa (DTV): Designed for digital nomads, remote workers, freelancers, and those interested in Thai cultural activities. It is valid for five years and allows multiple entries, with each stay up to 180 days. This visa can be renewed for an additional 180 days within Thailand. Spouses and children under 20 years old can also apply for dependent DTV visas. 2. Extended Visa-Free Period: Visitors from 93 nationalities now enjoy an extended visa-free stay from 30 to 60 days, encouraging longer tourist and short-term business visits. 3. Expanded Visa on Arrival: Additional nationalities are eligible for visas on arrival, increasing the total to 31 nationalities. 4. New Student Visa (ED-Plus): Aimed at undergraduate and higher-level students, this visa allows them to stay and seek employment in Thailand post-graduation. Work and Legal Considerations: The DTV visa is a significant step forward for digital nomads and remote workers. However, foreigners must adhere to the Foreigner's Working Management Law. The law defines 'work' as any occupation, regardless of employer nationality. Therefore, activities potentially affecting Thai job markets may require a work permit, even if the work is for an overseas employer. Clear guidelines from the Department of Employment (DOE) are anticipated to ensure compliance and build confidence among foreign workers. Short-Term Business Activities: With the visa-free period extended to 60 days, short-term business travelers must carefully evaluate their activities to ensure they do not constitute 'work' under the law. Specific activities may require regular or urgent work permits, initially valid for 15 days and extendable for another 15 days. Activities considered urgent or specific work include organizing conferences, conducting academic lectures, temporary internal audits, quality inspections, and machinery installation. These measures ensure that while foreigners can take advantage of Thailand’s extended visa privileges, they comply with local employment laws. This ensures legal security and protects Thai citizen jobs. These comprehensive visa updates mark Thailand's steps to attract foreign talent and investment, enhancing its international appeal and economic growth while maintaining a regulated work environment, reported The Nation.
