Hi All,

 

I’m in The UK at the moment, but back in a couple of weeks.

 

I currently have a Non-O retirement extension that expires in June. I’m planning on reducing my time in Thailand and spending around 6 months in either place. So, I would be in Thailand from the beginning of October until the beginning of April every year. To do this, I need to change my extension start date to sometime around the beginning of March. So the questions are:

 

1. Can I apply for a new extension in March 2025, thereby allowing me to leave Thailand at the end of March and return at the beginning of October? (I will have the necessary funds in the bank)

 

2. If I were to spend slightly less than 6 months in Thailand each year, would that be a problem?

 

3. When I return in a couple of weeks, will I have to do a TM30, even though I’m returning to the same address I have lived at for more that 10 years?

I don't obtain one after trips abroad (CW)

You could consider "starting over" to change your renewal date. 

Enter visa exempt and obtain a non O and subsequent 12 month extension.

If staying under 6 months and visa exempt remains 60 days .,.some folk would suggest stay in Thailand with 2x 30 day extensions to 2 visa exempt 60 day entries.

To get a new renewal date you'll have to start over as @DrJack54has noted.

All depends on your personal preferences.  On a long term view, I would opt for "starting over".  Two advantages, protected from an increase of "funds in the bank" requirement and the fact that Non-O still has no health insurance requirement.

If you want a March renewal date and come in tourist visa or visa exempt, apply for your Non-O at immigration 90 days before your targeted renewal date as the subsequent extension will begin/renew when the 90 day Non-O expires.  Good luck

Thinking he best advised to obtain non O eVisa when he in home country to have more flexible options for ongoing  extensions date.

Get a new single non-O in the UK while you are there next summer.

Enter early October.

Get an annual extension on that 90 day entry.

You new extension date will be early January, therefor applying for the annual renewal each December.

 

OP, another option is to obtain a METV eVisa each year

Would require 2 exits from Thailand of 1 if obtaining extensions.

Just a thought. 

Avoids the onerous money in bank requirement and opportunity cost.

Also avoids the annual reentry permit for extensions from a non O retirement

Reading the op, it would seem that he must have a valid re-entry permit, so maybe not so simple as "starting over"?

He is coming in couple of weeks and current extension ends in June.

His change of plans for time in Thailand from his OP.....

He can simply let his current extension expire after this upcoming visit

He's talking about next year and beyond, not this trip.

Parallel to the OP question, if you have a retirement visa, is it possible to apply for less than 365 days extension in order to have the renewal date fall in a less busy period such as the rainy season?

In this attached thread where myself along with several others saying "not possible" there was one report of a guy asking for and receiving 180 day instead of 365days.

The OP could return on a new SE visa which would take him into March and then do a 12 month extension.

Not much difference between new extension and renewal.

With a new visa, re-entry would be a moot point.

I think my best option will be to enter with visa exempt next October, and start again.  I'm entering with a re-entry permit this time, so it's not am immediate problem, but I like to think ahead.

Suggest you consider obtaining a non O retirement eVisa in UK after current extension expires.

To apply for non O retirement in Thailand from a visa exempt entry you need to show the 800k came from abroad.

In your case the funds would have been in Thailand for quite some time so immigration will waive that requirement.

However you have ample time in UK to obtain the eVisa

And, in addition to @DrJack54's comments, getting the non-O in the UK is far easier than an additional visit to immigration (unless you enjoy that kind of thing) and eliminates any potential "onward ticket" questions at the airport on departure.

That was the concern.

Obtain the eVisa non O after the upcoming visit is good option .
