In a scenario reminiscent of another recent high-profile case, Yang Zeqi, a Chinese model, has gone missing at the Thai-Myanmar border. The case follows the disappearance of actor Xingxing, which involved similar circumstances.

Yang's family has been actively seeking assistance through social media platforms like Weibo after losing contact with him during a film project in Thailand. Yang disappeared on 20th December 2024, at around 2 PM Beijing time, after departing from Suvarnabhumi Airport in Bangkok.

The timeline reveals that Yang received a WeChat message on 8th December 2024, confirming his selection for a film audition. He arranged his own passport and travel to Thailand.

Yang's final known movements were tracked through a map application screenshot showing a location near the Thai-Myanmar border, and he sent a message to a friend expressing sadness on 21st December.

A brief video call on 29th December showed Yang sitting in a chair, appearing with a visible injury near his eye, before losing contact again. The call's abrupt ending and Yang's condition have prompted his family to raise the alarm.

Family members have reported the case to the Chinese police and reached out to the Chinese embassies in both Thailand and Myanmar for assistance. They have also sought advice from the family of Xingxing, whose disappearance attracted significant public attention and was resolved swiftly.

Yang's relatives are urging influential bloggers and media in China to spotlight the case to garner the same level of public attention as Xingxing’s, in hopes of a swift resolution. The striking similarities between these cases have heightened concerns about the safety of Chinese nationals in the region, reported Siam Rath.

Terrible

Hope they locate him.

However looking on the bright side  at least he wasn't an influencer.

There's an article in BBC today about another minor Chinese actor lured to Thailand via WeChat for an acting gig when he was taken to Myanmar and forced work at a scam call center.

He got out because his girlfriend raised enough ruckus that the Chinese Govt. had to get involved to force his return.

What a great plan!

Kidnap a (semi) famous actor/model to work in your phone scam center, calling Chinese speakers who would know that the (semi) famous person calling them to sell crypto timeshares has been kidnapped.

Somebody needs a new publicity agent.

I'm screwed?

Thailand will have to do something or else the Chinese tourism will decline dramatically. The Chinese are already worried to come for fear of kidnapping and extortions happening previously.

No great loss as i see it if the tourism dwindles from lack of Chinese. But I worry those taken will suffer far more than being forced to make phone scams.

What could go wrong?  Who goes near that border, unless you are asking for trouble.

The Chinese still come here everyday....the smart ones do not go near that part of Thailand...ok!   No impact to tourism.  Only more runs go in that area looking for work or trouble!

No great loss...fairly sure that the loss of Chinese tourists would be devastating for Thailand tourist industry.

This may put a damper on Chinese tourists coming to Thailand, expect those numbers to crater!

The Chinese have police everywhere. They should take care of this.

China and Burma are specialists at disappearing people they don't like. Both are super heinous governments.

Seems somewhere in China they are taking these things happening in Thailand seriously. It is bound to have an effect on tourism.
