A shocking incident unfolded in Chumphon Province on January 17, when a foreign man reportedly held his Thai wife at gunpoint inside a black Ford pickup truck. The vehicle, carrying the man, the woman, and two children, is currently the focus of an urgent police search.

 

The incident began in Phato District before the vehicle was seen turning left at the Wang Tako junction in Lang Suan District, heading towards Chumphon. A witness shared a video showing the distressed woman attempting to open the truck’s door and escape while the vehicle was still moving at high speed. Despite her efforts, she was unable to jump out, and the truck continued on its way.

Witnesses noted that the truck turned back towards Lang Suan District at high speed, further complicating the search.

 

Police in Chumphon are now coordinating efforts to locate the vehicle and ensure the safety of the woman and children inside. Authorities are appealing for public cooperation and urge anyone with information about the vehicle’s whereabouts to come forward.

A foreign man has been arrested after allegedly threatening his Thai wife and child with a firearm and forcing them into a vehicle. The woman, who attempted to escape, was rescued with the help of a local witness and emergency responders.

 

At approximately 11:00 on January 17, 38-year-old Kiratikarn, from Pato District, Chumphon, was driving with 39-year-old Suphasara when they noticed a Ford 4-door vehicle driving ahead of them. As they followed, they observed the passenger door of the vehicle open, and a woman was seen trying to jump out of the moving car. Personal belongings were also falling from the vehicle, suggesting an altercation.

 

The witness, concerned for the woman’s safety, began recording a video as evidence and alerted emergency services. They continued following the vehicle, and upon closer inspection, the driver was identified as a foreign man, who gestured threateningly with what looked like a gun in his hand.

 

The foreign man then attempted to flee, driving erratically toward the direction of Laung Takor in the Thung Tako District. The witness also observed a child inside the car.

 

Police were immediately informed of the situation, and efforts were made to locate the vehicle. The car was spotted near the Wangkakow intersection in Thung Tako, Chumphon, but the driver swiftly turned and accelerated, evading the pursuing emergency vehicle.

 

A short time later, officers from the Chumphon Police Department successfully intercepted the Ford vehicle in the area of Ban Nohut Police Station in Chumphon. The driver, identified as 37-year-old Sandro, a Swiss national, was arrested and is now under investigation.

 

Authorities are continuing to question the suspect and investigate the reasons behind the incident. It is believed that the woman involved, 40-year-old Lamai from Udon Thani, is married to the suspect, but further details are yet to be confirmed.

Although shocking to viewers, the incident did not include firearms or malice. To ensure clarity and safety, police brought the couple to the station for breath alcohol testing and drug evaluation.

An the cops should track her down for posting false information on the internet,  which is illegal in Thailand. We know what would happen if a farang posted false information, but in xenophobic/racist Thailand, there seems to be different "interpretations" of all laws.

The foreign guy should pursue defamation claims against the person posting the video. It's about time this law was used correctly.

Am somewhat amazed this guy continues to drive at speed with this woman attempting to exit the vehicle. Surely he should have had the brains to pull over and sort the situation out than to possibly endanger other road users which fortunately did not occur.

Yep. Even if in a fit of rage, you would have thought pulling over would have been the obvious choice in that situation.

 

The video-sharer went too far in suggesting a gun was involved but it certainly looked like a very dangerous and unusual scene.

 

Perhaps the subsequent social shaming will encourage both to watch their behaviour more closely in future, especially in front of their kids...

In a shocking turn of events in Chumphon, Komchadluek News reported that the foreign man and his Thai wife were arrested after being found to have used methamphetamine ( “yaba”) while driving.
 

This incident began when a Facebook post went viral, reporting a black Ford 4-door pickup truck driven by a foreign man and his wife trying to get out the passenger door.

 

Following the alert, Chumphon Highway Police and Ban Nahu Police Station set up a roadblock and intercepted the vehicle near the Kuan Hin Mui railway station in Ban Nacah, Laeng Suan District. The wife, later identified as Ms. Lamai, claimed that the couple had argued over jealousy issues, and she attempted to leave the car after consuming wine. She expressed regret for causing the disruption.

 

Upon calming down at the police station, officers from the Chumphon Tourist Police grew suspicious of the couple’s behavior, which appeared erratic and indicative of drug use. The smell of narcotics was detected inside the vehicle, and police requested a urine test. Both individuals tested positive for methamphetamine, and further testing confirmed the presence of the drug in their system.

 

The Swiss national, 42-year-old Sandro, was charged with using and possessing methamphetamine without authorisation, while Ms. Lamai, 36, faced the same charge. Both confessed during interrogation that they used the drug to alleviate body aches, with the last dose taken on January 17 while en route to Krabi.

 

Ms. Lamai later expressed deep remorse for the incident, explaining the frequent arguments with her foreign husband, citing jealousy and anxiety from their business dealings overseas. She revealed that her husband had attempted suicide twice due to stress from business losses and growing paranoia, even suspecting her of infidelity during a trip to Vietnam. She also stated that damage to the pickup truck was mistakenly attributed to her supposed affair, though it was her husband who was driving at the time.

 

On January 18, the couple was transferred to Laeng Suan Provincial Court. Both now face legal consequences for their actions, and the case has highlighted the dangers of methamphetamine use and the strain it can place on personal relationships.
