Five Thai nationals released from Hamas captivity were found to be largely in normal health, according to an Israeli hospital director. While they appear physically stable, they exhibited vitamin D deficiencies due to a diet high in carbohydrates but low in protein and vegetables, along with insufficient sunlight exposure.

On 31st January 2025, Dr. Osnat Levsion Korach, General Director of Shamir Medical Centre in Be’er Ya’akov, Israel, stated that the Thai workers are currently undergoing medical evaluations.

The lack of balanced nutrition, particularly vitamin D, was noted as a concern. Despite not being held underground, the hostages were kept in dimly lit conditions that restricted sunlight exposure. As reported by Thai Wrath

The release occurred last Thursday. The individuals were handed over to the International Committee of the Red Cross.

The release is not part of the Israel-Hamas ceasefire deal agreed on 19 January. (as reported by BBC)

So much for all those on this forum predicting that the hostages were all being abused and raped etc. All the ones released so far in good health and look fit.

They have all been abused and some of the other nationalities were indeed raped. More disgusting Hamas supporting slurs from you.

It's great to see them released.

It had nothing to do with the Israel/Hamas deal, and before anyone comments, it was a "private deal" between Thailand and Hamas (probably lots of money). Israel did NOT negotiate their release, and I'm sure they were way down the Israel list of concerns.

Everybody knows that many Thai people hide from the Sun.

They wear winter coats with hoods in the hottest times of the year, for example.

Also, this may be one reason why many Thai people test low for serum vitamin D levels.

Supplementation and testing is recommended.

Yeah, being kept in a cell for no reason for 14 months isnt abuse. You post is a demonstration of moral vacuity.

"The Ministry of Foreign Affairs wishes to express heartfelt congratulations to the families of the released hostages, as well as to extend its deep appreciation to Qatar, Egypt, Iran, Türkiye, the US and other friendly countries as well as the International Committee of the Red Cross"

Number of off topic posts have been removed. One of the usual suspects has also been removed. This topic is not about Palestinian prisoners, trolling and false accustions that they are also hostages or accusations of Biden lying.

The facts about how hostages were treated are unlikely to be known until they have all been released. The Israeli government are likely to ask for silence so as not to prejudice the release of those still being held.
