Why bring back a seven year old thread... Odd.

I think most of us know what Thai jails are like - having read numerous books and articles and threads about them.

Harsh but harsh. If only.....

The thing about the Mancunian guy is that I feel sorry for him cause he seemed a little on the daft side. I mean for someone smuggling 3000 xtc tablets he sure didn't take much effort to conceal them.

And then he got 99 years for pleading guilty instead of the death penalty? I guess he has hope that at some point the British government may intravene. Cause 99 years in that place seems worse than death to me.

He's been there 6 months with 98 and a half more years to go!

But all in all the prison didn't seem to bad . . .

They had a tv station and access to televisions to watch it,

The atmosphere seemed quite relaxed . . .

The question I always wonder about?

If everyone calls this hotel the Bangkok Hilton, does Hilton actually have a hotel in Bangkok and what is it called?

I'm pretty sure it wouldn't be the Bangkok Hilton cause of the association . ..

I wanted to watched, after watching story of one man in my country, in Poland, Guy was there on hols, traveling, never doing drugs before, meet girl, and she after a while ask him send her extasy pills from Poland, and he agree, he sended 12 times, on total 200 pills (like 17 pills each time) in cd covers he send it.

After she talked him go bkk collect some money, he got arrested, That girl was working for USA drug enforcement agency and some thai gov. she made him do it, lure him, I think its not fair, cuz he never told her he will do it first...

Guess what he gets? Any ideas? U will never guess that one, He gets 12 times deatch penatly, 1 deatch penatly for 1 delivery, so 200 pills = 12x deatch or 17 pills = deatch

in uk for 17 pills u get community service, or 1 year and bail out.

He pleadged guilty so they change it to life sentence. He never give it up, his amily fought for him, his mum sold house and help a lot, they wrote letters to polish politicians, like Lech Walensa, current and ex presidents, they sign it.

He spend over 6 years in Bang Kwang, and got pardon from the king on kings birthday, get amnesty from kind, and freedom, back to poland now, wrote a book 12x deatch.

Well thats just one story.

Let's not forget that each person is making his own choice. Not understanding the risk is not an excuse. Not understanding the penalty is no excuse.

Yes the penalties are harsh. More than most for UK citizens too.

It really doesn't matter what year it is 2011/2554 the penalties are the penalties. You might not agree with them but they aren't a secret. Every place in the world is not the same!

Sorry to hear about what happened to your friend, it must have been tough for him.

Thailand is a bad place to get involved in smuggling drugs. Yes I feel sympathy for those who receive harsh sentences but they must serve those. That's the law of the country.

8 years then transfer to your home prison service where the likelihood is less than 2 more years isn't harsh in my view. Most foreigners get off lightly. Except for the Brits.
