Three people lost their lives in a road crash early morning on 8 March, when a pickup truck driver, veered off the road, crossed the central reservation, and collided head-on with an oncoming vehicle.

The incident occurred at approximately 05:45 along the Kamphaeng Phet–Phichit road in Sai Ngam district. Police and emergency responders rushed to the scene at kilometre marker 38-39 in Moo 1, Sai Ngam subdistrict, where they found two severely damaged vehicles.

A white Toyota pickup truck, registered in Phichit, had crashed into a covered pickup truck with Bangkok plates. The impact was devastating, leaving three people dead at the scene.

The deceased were identified as Mr Phitsanupong Sommarth, 32, the driver of the covered pickup, and Mr Boonlak Na-saret, 35, the driver of the four-door pickup, along with his passenger, Mr Kamphai Sirisuwan, 40. Another passenger in the covered pickup, Mr Wittaya Karaket, 36, was critically injured and rushed to hospital.

Among the grieving relatives who arrived at the hospital was Ms Sansanee, 32, the wife of Mr Phitsanupong. Nine months pregnant, she was due to give birth in just three days and had been scheduled for a prenatal check-up with her husband on 11 March. Overcome with grief, she mourned the loss of the father of her unborn child.

Ms Kamonchanok Khaojan, 28, who was driving behind the covered pickup, recalled the moment the crash unfolded.

“I saw the four-door pickup lose control from the opposite lane, cross the central reservation, and crash into the covered pickup. The impact sent the covered truck rolling onto its side off the road. I immediately called the police,” she said.

Authorities examined the crash site and found skid marks indicating that the four-door pickup had swerved off the road before re-entering at high speed, ultimately then crossing into oncoming traffic.

Emergency responders transported the deceased to Sai Ngam Hospital for post-mortem examinations, while police continue to investigate the exact cause of the incident.
