Russian President Vladimir Putin agreed on Tuesday to U.S. President Donald Trump's proposal for a month-long halt to strikes against energy infrastructure in Ukraine, a limited ceasefire that Kyiv quickly said it would be willing to consider. Talks aimed at advancing toward a broader peace plan will begin immediately, the White House said following a lengthy call between the two leaders, but it was unclear whether Ukraine will be involved.

Putin ordered the Russian military to stop attacks against energy sites after speaking with Trump, the Kremlin said in a statement. But he again raised concerns during the call that a temporary ceasefire might allow Ukraine to mobilize more soldiers and rearm itself.
Putin also emphasized that any resolution of the conflict would require an end to all military and intelligence assistance to Ukraine, the Kremlin added.

 

 

Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said his country would consider supporting the U.S. proposal to stop strikes on energy infrastructure.
"I think it will be right that we will have a conversation with President Trump and we will know in detail what the Russians offered the Americans or what the Americans offered the Russians," Zelenskiy told reporters during an online briefing.

Negotiations on a maritime ceasefire in the Black Sea, as well as a more complete ceasefire and a permanent peace deal, will commence immediately in the Middle East, the White House said in a statement, though it did not say whether Ukraine would be invited.

Today, President Trump and President Putin spoke about the need for peace and a ceasefire in the Ukraine war. Both leaders agreed this conflict needs to end with a lasting peace. They also stressed the need for improved bilateral relations between the United States and Russia. The blood and treasure that both Ukraine and Russia have been spending in this war would be better spent on the needs of their people.

This conflict should never have started and should have been ended long ago with sincere and good faith peace efforts. The leaders agreed that the movement to peace will begin with an energy and infrastructure ceasefire, as well as technical negotiations on implementation of a maritime ceasefire in the Black Sea, full ceasefire and permanent peace. These negotiations will begin immediately in the Middle East.

The leaders spoke broadly about the Middle East as a region of potential cooperation to prevent future conflicts. They further discussed the need to stop proliferation of strategic weapons and will engage with others to ensure the broadest possible application. The two leaders shared the view that Iran should never be in a position to destroy Israel.

The two leaders agreed that a future with an improved bilateral relationship between the United States and Russia has huge upside. This includes enormous economic deals and geopolitical stability when peace has been achieved.

 

Kremlin's statement on possible 30-day ceasefire on energy infrastructure

"During the conversation, Donald Trump proposed that parties to the conflict should mutually refrain from strikes on energy infrastructure facilities for 30 days. Vladimir Putin responded positively to this initiative and immediately gave the Russian military the corresponding order.

"The Russian President also responded constructively to Donald Trump’s suggestion to implement a well-known initiative concerning the safety of navigation in the Black Sea. It was agreed that negotiations to further elaborate the specific details of such an agreement should begin."

As I've said all along, Russia isn't going to be fooled again by Kiev.  So Zelenskyy is going to "consider" the proposal?  LOL. So far, no real progress other than an agreement to continue negotiations.  

 

References to the Middle East are interesting.  I'm not sure why Putin doesn't somehow tie that into the deal.  

 

Trump as Mr. "stop the killing" in Ukraine, and yet trying to start WW III in the Middle East?  That doesn't make much sense, does it?  Rubio and the Neocons will be the end of us all, I'm afraid.  Clutching onto a view of a world that no longer exists.

I do think that Nobel Prize is his only motivation. He is still vert PO'd at Obama getting the recognition but not him.

Winter is going to end, so energy is not that important for Ukraine any more. However, Russia's energy infrastructure is key to get the flow of exports going and finance the war.

No ceasefire is in effect.

Putin is reeling from the drones attacks by Ukraine on his oil fields that he has to concede for the 30 days ceasefire. The ingenuity of the Ukrainians to develop their own long range drones and bigger payloads have gave them this victory over Russia.

 Putin wiped his boots with the paper containing Trump's ceasefire proposals. I'm afraid there will be no reaction at all. The United States is not what it used to be. Instead of people with values and principles, it is now run by MAGA insects. Putin doesn’t fear this crowd at all. As soon as he mentions nuclear weapons once, all the cockroaches scatter into their cracks.
