A tragic incident unfolded in Nakhon Pathom as a Thai police officer, Senior Sergeant Major Arnon from Thung Song Hong Police Station, turned himself in for fatally shooting his girlfriend, Kanita, on her birthday, March 26. The event, witnessed by Kanita's family, has left the community in shock.

Arnon, 38, surrendered at Mueang Nakhon Pathom Police Station after the early morning shooting, arriving in his pickup truck and handing over the weapon he used. CCTV footage captured the heated argument between the couple at Kanita's home, where Arnon fired seven shots at her in the living room in front of her terrified 10-year-old son and other family members.

Kanita’s grandmother, Jompaeng, reported that Arnon was drunk and had returned late, sparking a confrontation over his tardiness. Despite attempts to diffuse the situation, the disagreement quickly escalated when Kanita pushed Arnon, prompting him to shoot her until she collapsed.

Kanita, previously a hardworking butcher who successfully built a profitable rental cold storage business, had been in a relationship with Arnon for about a year. Known for her generosity, she supported him financially. However, recent discoveries of Arnon's infidelity led her to seek separation. On her birthday, she messaged Arnon requesting to end the relationship and thanking him for a birthday gift, moments before the tragedy occurred.

Arnon claimed the dispute stemmed from a suspected affair on Kanita’s part, leading to the fateful altercation. He faces initial charges of intentional murder, which could result in the death penalty, life imprisonment, or a 15 to 20-year prison term, as per Section 288 of the Criminal Code. Further charges may follow upon completion of the investigation.

This heartrending case underscores the severe consequences of domestic disputes and highlights the importance of addressing relationship conflicts through non-violent means, reported The Thaiger.
