Extra troop deployment on the Thai-Lao border is now underway as sporadic battles flare in the neighbouring country's Bo Kaeo province.

The Pha Muang Task Force commander, Maj-Gen Kridakorn Chantrat, is taking no chances and has ordered bolstered security measures in the Wiang Kaen district of Chiang Rai. The aim is to prevent any conflict spillover and ensure the safety of local Thai communities nearby.

A close call occurred yesterday when a bullet landed on a house in Ban Rom Fah Pha Mon village in the Por sub-district, fortunately causing no harm. However, residents remain on edge with the ongoing threat that more stray munitions could find their way onto Thai soil if the conflict escalates on the other side.

This vigilance comes as the village leaders and local police across the border keep a watchful eye on potential movements by anti-government groups in Laos.

Regional authorities are keen to avoid any cross-border incidents that could further exacerbate tension in the area.

The Thai military's increased presence serves as both a protective measure for border communities and a buffer against the chaos erupting just over the border. As security efforts continue to tighten, maintaining peace through strategic positioning and communication remains critical.

The heightened security measures underscore the tricky balance of ensuring national safety while neighbours grapple with internal turmoil.

The developments are being closely monitored on both sides, as Thai officials remain committed to keeping their borders secure and their citizens safe amidst external uncertainties.
