No That Still comes back on My Phone as " EMPTY Number "

I just dialed a US 800 number and it worked fine.

Please post the number you're trying to call, including the country and area code, I'll try and dial it and see what happens. (I am assuming that it is a business rather than personal phone number and that posting it does not violate the board rules.)

It Is a Business Number M8 It's Actually Part of The U.K. Government ( The DWP ).....003448001912187777

The correct sequence is as follows (hyphens added to separate the components): 003-44-0800-1912 1877 77; the 800 UK based numbers require dialing 0800, not just 800.

I get an error message in Thai language, indicating that this number has international calls disabled. Apparently that is an option that UK based 800 numbers can use.

Sounds like your best bet is to use one of the services that other posters suggested.

You're having a lark aren't you?

That's not a Freephone number. The number you are trying to call is +44 191 218 7777 or for you 003 44 191 218 7777.

I don't know how some of you manage to remember how to get out of bed 😊

There is a Pensions Tracing Service Freephone number 0800 731 0175(003 44 800 731 0175). You should be able to get through that way. But it makes no difference as likely you'll be charged for the call either way, unless you are using a VoIP service that doesn't charge for Freephone calls.

Erm...I don't think that I am the idiot here. Someone who doesn't understand the difference between a normal number and a Freephone number....

You should have just laughed it off and thanked me. Now you look even worse.

Perhaps your 003 service hasn't been activated. Perhaps user error. Have you checked with 1175 if you can use it?

I just tried it with my AIS phone. It worked. You owe me 5.35 baht due to your inability to make the call yourself.

That's the ticket, good humour. I'll let you off this time. But 12p per minute can add up if you are waiting in a queue for someone to answer. Better to sign up with a VoIP service and to use the Freephone number. I just tried it using a VoIP service. Connected at no charge.

What phone do you have exactly? Can look into what other avenues are available to you.

Even if you buy a call package from AIS, it will still cost you 8.4p per minute.

That's life...from Indoor swimming pool with a slide, swings etc...to a burner phone. I understand about the 12p now.

So, with no Smartphone, your options are limited. You can still create a VoIP account to make calls with your 'burner'.

You'll be charged for both parts of the call. In your case it would be a total of 2.5-3p per minute. Thailand rate of 2.5p per minute, plus U.K rate of either 0.5p for landlines or 0p for Freephone. That's 1.1 baht to 1.3 baht per minute.

For this you would need to sign up with https://www.localphone.com/ and choose to use their Dial Online or Callback service. It works by you telling them the number that you want to call. They will then call you on your burner phone and connect you to the number you want to call: https://www.localphone.com/services/dial_online With this option, you initiate the call from your PC

https://www.localphone.com/services/callback With this option you initiate the call from your burner phone.

Nothing to pay from your phone credit. The cost will come from the Localphone top up balance.

I fear it might seem a bit complicated to you.

The only other reasonably priced alternative, if you imagine it will be a long call and there being a possibility of having to call again, is to get a backup TRUE Move H Tourist or Myanmar or Cambodia SIM. With any of those, you can utilise the 00600 calling service for 1 baht per minute. The difficulty would be getting your local 7-11 or TRUE service centre to sell you one for 49 baht. NOT DTAC nor AIS. It has to be TRUE.

Why ??

A directive to sell bundles of useless calls and data to foreigners, rather than just the plain vanilla SIM they might want.

TBH, I haven't looked at what they sell there in 7-11. I don't know if they sell Tourist SIM and might not want to sell you a Myanmar or Cambodia SIM if you aren't from those places.

You might be able to buy one online and then register it: https://www.lazada.co.th/products/pdp-i544504578-s14610174233.html But as you can see, the price creeps up that way.

If you have a way to see your itemized charges it would be interesting to know what happened. After I make an int'l call I always look at my itemized charges and so far I haven't had any issues. I Actually Went to the AIS Shop & Got them to Check,The Guy TOLD Me I Hadn't put the 003 in before I Dialled....What a Load of Rubbish,I'm NOT That Stupid.....Also NOTE That with the 003 Code You CANNOT Make 0800 Numbers to The U.K. Just comes up as " EMPTY Number when dialling ....003800 Then the Number !!

probably because you need to put 44 (country code) before the 800
