A Cambodian farmer has been arrested for the brutal killing of his six-year-old nephew in Banteay Meanchey province, after the child allegedly threatened to expose his uncle’s drug use.

Police say the suspect, 31-year-old Klim Kimcheak, murdered his nephew, Khuy Sokhoeuth, on Monday in Kork Thom village, Preah Neth Preah district. The boy had reportedly warned he would tell their grandparents about Kimcheak’s drug-taking habits, which led to a fatal outburst.

Major Nuon Chanthoeun, Deputy District Police Chief, confirmed that Kimcheak, a known drug user, had previously been sent to rehab by his father. Despite these interventions, he remained unstable and violent.

Following an argument, Kimcheak used a homemade blade to decapitate the child before burying the body behind their home. The horrific scene was discovered by the boy’s grandmother later that night, who immediately notified local authorities.

The police recovered the body for forensic examination and arrested Kimcheak the following day. During questioning, he admitted to the killing, claiming anger and humiliation over the boy’s words.

“He confessed to killing the victim with a knife after being insulted and accused of using drugs,” said Banteay Meanchey Police Chief Major General Seth Luos. Officers also seized the weapon believed to have been used in the crime.

Kimcheak now faces charges of murder and drug use. If convicted, he could be sentenced to up to 15 years in prison.

The case has shocked the local community and reignited concerns about drug abuse and mental health in rural Cambodia.

ThaiVisa, it's also in French

Very sad.

A drunk Russian in Pattaya will get 1000x more views.  That's a problem.  Drugs, family problems, mental health, millions affected in SE Asia.....we fail to address it properly because a farang not paying in Phuket is way easier to attack so we spend all our time trying to get them deported via internet chat messages.

" If convicted, he could be sentenced to up to 15 years in prison." May get less than 15 years.
