Palestine Action Echo Glastonbury Chant ‘death to the IDF’

Supporters of the activist group Palestine Action shouted "death, death to the IDF" outside Woolwich Crown Court on Monday, emulating a controversial chant by rapper Bob Vylan during his Glastonbury performance. The protest occurred as several members of the group appeared in court on charges linked to an alleged armed attack on an Israeli defense firm, in which a police officer was reportedly assaulted with a sledgehammer.

The demonstration outside the south-east London courthouse came just hours after Avon and Somerset Police launched an investigation into Bob Vylan and fellow artists Kneecap under public order laws. Both acts had faced scrutiny for inflammatory rhetoric during their festival sets, with the chant “death to the IDF” drawing particular attention. Scotland Yard has now confirmed it is investigating whether any criminal offenses were committed during the protest outside the court.

Moazzam Begg, the former Guantanamo Bay detainee and outreach director for the prisoners’ rights group Cage International, was also filmed joining chants of “death, death to the IDF” at a separate pro-Palestinian demonstration in Leicester. He praised the crowd for chanting “death to Zionism” and continued: “The other chant that we make today is that Israel is a terror state. That’s not just a statement of a protest, it’s actually true. You know yesterday in Glastonbury, what was said? Shall I say the words? Shall I say the words? Death, death to the IDF. Death, death to the IDF. Death, death to the IDF.”

The protest coincided with a significant political development: Home Secretary Yvette Cooper’s move to proscribe Palestine Action as a terrorist organisation. If successful, the group will be treated on par with Hamas, Al-Qaeda, and Islamic State under UK law. The designation would make it a criminal offense to be a member or supporter of the group, with penalties of up to 14 years in prison.

During the protest, demonstrators carried signs with messages like “hands off Gaza” and chanted “we are all Palestine Action,” signaling solidarity with the 18 defendants currently facing legal proceedings. Mr Justice Johnson is presiding over a two-day legal argument to prepare for three upcoming trials involving the group, the first of which is scheduled to begin on November 17.

The charges stem from an incident on August 6 last year, when activists allegedly used a repurposed prison van to break into Elbit Systems UK near Bristol. The group reportedly carried fireworks, flares, and whips. In the melee, police sergeant Kate Evans was allegedly struck with a sledgehammer by 22-year-old Sam Corner.

Palestine Action is currently pursuing legal action to challenge the government’s efforts to label it a terrorist entity. On Monday, the High Court held an emergency hearing on an application for judicial review filed on behalf of Huda Ammori, one of the group’s founders. A second hearing is scheduled for Friday to determine whether the government can be temporarily blocked from implementing the proscription order while the full challenge proceeds. That case is expected to be heard during the week of July 21.

Lucky this is a left wing cause, otherwise they could be in real trouble.

The to be designated terrorist group Palestine Action soon latched on to the hate speech inciting violence by Bob Vylan. As with Bob Vylan, no police action to stop them.

I expect there will be more, thanks to the media coverage of the idiot pop star at Glastonbury!

Shades of the Vietnam war protests and songs about LBJ.

Think the Vietnam War protests were much more justified than this ignorant lot e.g. So many US & Aussie troops in Vietnam for years, the IDF hasn't used napalm and the history of Vietnamese struggle was very different. Jihad was not a factor, and I for one never believed in the Domino theory.

Reckon next years Glastonbury will have a lower attendance.

Also some companies and artists will just not support it.

Rapper Bob Vylan, has stuck an oar through the bottom of the Glastonbury boat.

Roll on next year. :stoner:
