Adoption Of A Thai Child From A Previous Marriage

Hi Everyone

Not sure if this post is in the right forum but no doubt the mods will move if appropriate.

Situation: I am a UK national, domiciled in Thailand and married to a Thai lady. Only recently married although we have been together for almost 3 years. She has a son, 8 years old, from a previous marriage, to a Thai national.

Question: If I were to go through the trauma of formally adopting this child (and I realise that it can be a long and complicated procedure) does this confer upon the child any right to obtain UK citizenship?

I am asking this because I am trying to plan ahead. There is a possibility that I may wish to relocate back to the UK, especially if the Thai authorities make it impossible for me to remain here, which could happen, looking at the way the goalposts are currently being moved. If this comes to pass I would, of course, want to take my wife and her son with me. My wife could eventually jump through all of the hoops to get ILR and citizenship but what about the boy?

Any information / advice would be appreciated.

Thanks

I am from America, and adoted my wifes son. This does not guarantee a visa, or citizenship. All this does is legally makes the child as yours even though adopted, but no guarantees for anything else. Since the child is not a naturally born child to you, citizenship is not automatic.
