Authorities investigating a car that plunged into a ravine in Khao Khoma, Phitsanulok province, have uncovered significant clues that could help solve the missing vehicle case.

The burnt-out vehicle, discovered alongside human skeletal remains, is believed to be a rental car that a woman failed to return in June 2023. GPS tracking shows the signal from the car disappeared near the crash site over two years ago. DNA testing is now being fast-tracked to confirm the identity of the deceased.

The discovery came after a lorry fell into the same ravine in Cha Tat Kan district. While recovering the lorry, rescuers spotted the charred remains of a second vehicle, an MG car without licence plates, containing burnt human bones.

On 8 August, the Prasat Boon Sathan rescue foundation confirmed that the car matched the description of an MG rental reported missing from Bangkok in 2023. Records showed the vehicle’s GPS signal was lost near Khao Khoma on 19 June that year.

Police have emphasised that these findings remain preliminary. The car’s owner, identified as 38-year-old Mr Niroj from Pathum Thani, is cooperating with investigators and is due to provide further documents at Cha Tat Kan Police Station on 9 August.

According to police, Mr Niroj had rented the black MG to a woman named Ms Ratthanakorn from Ang Thong province. The vehicle was due for return on 29 June 2023, but was never brought back, and contact with the renter was lost. He subsequently filed a theft complaint at Sai Mai Police Station after the GPS tracker went silent.

Cha Tat Kan police superintendent, Pol Col Rawit Ukritmanonrot, said the skeletal remains have been secured and will be sent to the Police Forensic Institute for DNA analysis. Specialists are also checking the vehicle’s chassis and engine numbers to confirm its identity.

Police are now working to determine whether the remains belong to the missing renter and to uncover the events that led to the crash. Investigators have stressed that all possible leads are being pursued in order to solve the mystery.
