France Summons US Ambassador: Fury Over Antisemitism Claims

France has called in the U.S. ambassador after a controversial letter from Charles Kushner to President Emmanuel Macron accused France of inadequate action against rising antisemitism. The French foreign ministry branded Kushner's allegations "unacceptable", summoning him to the Quai d'Orsay for a meeting.

In a bold statement, France dismissed the claims, asserting that any rise in antisemitic acts since 7 October is being thoroughly addressed. The statement highlighted France's dedicated efforts to oppose these acts by labelling them "intolerable."

The foreign minister further criticised Kushner's actions as contradictory to international law, specifically the 1961 Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations, which warns against meddling in another nation's affairs. They expressed that these allegations damage the essential trust between long-time allies France and the U.S.

While official comments from the White House and U.S. State Department remain absent, summoning the ambassador signifies a serious diplomatic discontent. Charles Kushner, known for his real estate empire, is the father of Jared Kushner, who is married to Ivanka Trump.

Details of the letter have not been disclosed. The situation adds tension to a recent disagreement involving Israel’s prime minister, who accused France’s moves toward recognising a Palestinian state of inciting antisemitism—a charge denied by Macron, reported CBS News.

With a Jewish population of around 500,000, France’s efforts to combat antisemitism are under global scrutiny. The timing adds strain to already tense U.S.-France relations amid trade disputes initiated by former president Trump. A decree enforcing import duties on goods valued under $800, effective from 29 August, has not been well received by France.

In response, France, alongside other European postal services, plans to suspend certain package shipments to the U.S., citing confusion over the new tariff regulations. Moreover, disagreements linger over U.N. peacekeeping operations in Lebanon, with France opposing the U.S.'s intent to reduce their scope.

Despite these rifts, a recent meeting between Trump and Macron showcased a slight thawing, particularly regarding support for Ukraine against Russia. However, the controversy over the Kushner letter seems set to stir further diplomatic challenges.

Kushner -- what a lowlife!  See below (from Wikipedia):

On June 30, 2004, Kushner was fined $508,900 by the Federal Election Commission for contributing to Democratic political campaigns in the names of his partnerships when he lacked authorization to do so. In 2005, following an investigation by United States attorney for the District of New Jersey Chris Christie negotiated a plea agreement with him, under which Kushner pleaded guilty to 18 counts of illegal campaign contributions, tax evasion, and witness tampering.

The witness tampering charge arose from Kushner's retaliation against William Schulder, his sister Esther's husband, who was cooperating with federal investigators against Kushner.  Kushner hired a prostitute to seduce his brother-in-law, arranging to record a sexual encounter between the two and send the tape to his sister. He was sentenced to two years in prison and served 14 months at Federal Prison Camp, Montgomery, in Alabama before being sent to a halfway house in Newark, New Jersey, to complete his sentence. He was released from prison on August 25, 2006.

As a convicted felon, Charles Kushner was also disbarred and prohibited from practicing law in New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania. Republican Chris Christie said Kushner committed "one of the most loathsome, disgusting crimes" he prosecuted.

A highly inappropriate ambassador pick for sure. Basically an insulting troll pick. Typical of the shambolic Trump regime shabby  treatment of traditional allies.

Jews received ruthless treatment in France in WW2.

Thats true.

They were occupied by the Nazis and then had a fascist pro Nazi French leader during that dark era.

But don't forget the brave fighters of the French Resistance.

There is of course a lot of antisemitism in France and most everywhere else. But the regime and ambassador sending the message lack credibility.

What Kushner, Trump and the current bootlicking US government fail to realise is what another country does is absolutely nothing to do with the USA, unless of course the US government is actively supporting the current criminal war cabinet and current government of Israel, which is is doing. Even then, it still does not have the right to interfere.

Today, anti-Semitism in France is essentially the work of Arab origin people, cultivated by the main far-left party as electoral breeding ground.

But nowhere near the treatment that they are dealing out to the Palestinians.

Many French people during WW2 actively aided and sheltered Jewish people.

Who is sheltering and aiding the Palestinian people?

WE are talking about French Jews and Jews in France .

We aren't talking about Jews in Israel .

Two different Countries

Europe as a whole is becoming increasingly anti-semitic, for obvious reasons.

It deserves to be highlighted.

That is a myth that the French  have promoted as the reality is a searing indictment of their nation.

Yes, some French acted responsibly. Unfortunately, if all the people  who said they were in the resistance actually  were in the resistance, the Germans would not have have had an easy time occupying France. The Germans did not deport the French jews. Rather it was the French who did so with great gusto. Quite a difference from the heroic and brave Danish and Dutch people.

Agreed.

It was only a small minority of French people who tried to save Jews.

Such people were heroic.

I give a pass to those that didn’t help to save their own lives.

But not to those who actively reported Jews and profitted from that.

The President of France is no better educated than the Ambassador.

You neglect to mention that a pardon was granted in 2020.

The man served his time and paid a heavy price for a family feud. It was wrong, but unfortunately far too common in wealthy families around the world.

The ambassador has credibility because of his past work on behalf of contesting acts of prejudice. You are ignoring his robust record of philanthropy. He was a pillar of the New York & New Jersey jewish community. He funded a maternity wing for a hospital that serviced a high concentration of low income afro american and latino New Yorkers.  He was appointed to the United States Holocaust Memorial Council by President Bill Clinton He has served as a Trustee and Board Member for New York University, Hofstra University, Touro College, Stern College for Women, and  National Jewish Health. The man has  credibility when it comes to understanding community  issues. You  don't like his friendship with trump, that's all.

And as for your glorification of the french resistance, it is an insult to the people who actually risked their lives to stand up to the nazis. After the British, Canadian and US forces landed at  Normandy, all of a sudden, the French became members of the resistance. Quite a contrast to the Poles who did not stop fighting. During the Battle of Britain, only 13 French pilots served. Meanwhile the Poles had 145, the Czech's 83, and the Belgians 28 flying in the Battle of Britain: All countries steamrolled by the Germans.

Pardoned?

Pardoned by the same criminally corrupt grifter who pardoned violent insurrectionists because they were acting on his behalf.

A pardon by such a person gives no moral authority whatsoever.

He's the same kind of his boss. A criminal. Period

Don't shoot the messenger - and that is precisely, what this ambassador is = a messenger.

Look up Charles Kushner and you will see Kushner's religious roots and the co-incidential links to the present leadership of the US.

Not to be taken serious, I just know that Kushner did his religious congregation more damage than a favour - his 15 minutes of fame.

I've heard it all now.  Recognizing a "Two State Solution" and recognizing a sovereign Palestinian state is now "antisemitism."  My goodness, how the Overton Window has been crow-barred out of its frame.

Considering several U.S. presidents have supported a Two-State Solution for Israel, including Bill Clinton (Oslo Accords, 1993-2000), George W. Bush (Roadmap for Peace, 2002), and Barack Obama (consistent advocacy, e.g., 2016 UN Resolution 2334), as well as Harry Truman (where a two-state solution was implied for the nascent state of Israel) - that means that ALL of these US Presidents are antisemitic?  I bet that is surprising news to them!

What a forsaken world we live in.  Which explains why I'm a Buddhist. The world is simply awash in the blood of those killed in The Name and In The Glory Of God.

Some more background on this Kushner. Wonder if there is anything else but criminals in Trumps's administration. MAGA's no need for an answer from you boys, as it is too obvious.

https://finance.yahoo.com/news/france-summons-us-envoy-kushner-222404546.html

“France firmly rejects these latest allegations,” the foreign ministry said in a statement late Sunday. “They also fall short of the quality of the transatlantic partnership between France and the United States and of the trust that must prevail between allies.”

The State Department didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment about Kushner’s whereabouts or why he wasn’t able to make it to the meeting. Kushner is a real estate developer and the father of President Donald Trump’s son-in-law, Jared. He served more than a year in federal prison for crimes including tax evasion and witness tampering, but Trump later pardoned him in 2020.

I'm not taking anyone's side, but I must say this: Macron is just a puppet of rich investors in Muslim counties industries. He takes their side because he got no choice. He has to follow orders from his top. 🤔

Well I'm not going to blame them for the Nazis occupying them.

I have an anecdote though.

My Dad a WW2 veteran was visiting the area of France with the D Day beaches.

In a town in the area an older French lady was being rude to him as the French are often rude to most people, perhaps especially Americans.

My Dad did some kind of spiel about the war (not sure what exactly or if any was in French) and the lady instantly melted into subservient apology.

(My Dad never entered the continent but his brother was a legendary Nazi killer while wearing his "H" dogtag.)

A reported post and response quoting it have been removed.
