Authorities in Bang Lamung, Chonburi, have arrested a notorious drug dealer known locally as “Chang Huay Yai”, after a sting operation in Huay Yai on 27 August. The suspect, who is disabled with one leg amputated, attempted to evade justice by swallowing quantities of methamphetamine tablets and crystal meth to destroy evidence.

District chief Patcharapatch Srithanyanon ordered deputy district chief Khamphrai Laosaen, together with officials from the security division and volunteer defence corps, to mount a covert operation after receiving intelligence from a previously arrested user. The tip-off suggested that “Chang”, a key drug distributor in the area, continued to supply methamphetamine and yaba tablets to smaller networks.

The operation was staged in a small single-storey shelter on Thetsaban Huay Yai 1 Road, Soi 36. Officers arranged a purchase of 50 grams of crystal meth. When “Chang” delivered the drugs to an undercover agent, officers moved in to arrest him.

Realising he had been exposed, the suspect barricaded himself inside, rushing into a bathroom where he attempted to flush hundreds of yaba pills down the toilet and into the drain. In a desperate move, he swallowed an unknown number of yaba tablets and crystal meth packets before collapsing.

Officers forced entry and found hundreds of methamphetamine tablets scattered across the bathroom floor and sink, along with four sealed packets of yaba. A further search uncovered crystal meth in plastic bags. In total, police seized 32.47 grams of crystal meth and 920 yaba tablets.

The suspect, identified as 47-year-old Ittisak Intharaseng, also widely known as “Chang, the one-legged dealer of Huay Yai”, was rushed to hospital in a semi-conscious state. Doctors said his condition was stable but required close monitoring.

Authorities have stationed officers at the hospital to guard him until he recovers, after which he will be formally charged and handed over to Huay Yai Police for prosecution.
