There are some difficulties with that. Overriding the common law principal of jus soli would be a serious assault on the rights of every British born citizen, not to mention what’s left of magna carta. The UK might argue they do not recognize dual citizenship but they can’t stop other nations issuing passports to British citizens. “We have a situation now, you got guys parking up in Dubai/Monaco etc, but basically spending most of their time in the UK or using the UK as a backup, accessing the medical care, the safety net of everything the UK offers, REMOVE ALL THAT.” That applies equally to many Brits living in Thailand, their ‘self insurance’ underwritten by a dash back to Nanny if they need serious medical treatment. A very much simpler and just move would be to ban Non-Dom status and, like the U.S., hold British citizens under UK tax laws wherever they are. Many might then choose to surrender their British citizenship but it would be a choice they make, not an arbitrary decision by bureaucrats.
