August 28, 2025Aug 28 Ok thought as I live in the sticks thought this may pass me by, but no got the phone cal this morning. First said she was from bangkok bank, then said a few things and then said you have a joint account only with us, no I said I also have an individual account opened 9 years ago at Chiang Mai and moved to Lam Plai Mat branch 7 years ago. Then she asked me what ID documents from Australia do you have, I said a passport and she said need 1 other an id card, said Australia doesnt have them, asked drivers license, yes I have an expired one( wont renew because have thai ones and hire companys in Oz take thai licenses not sure next time as Im over 70) I said I have bike and car Thai licenses, I have a pink card thai id and a yellow house book, none of those were accepted. I stated the way things are going in Australia a lot of over 65 wont have licenses soon so maybe you need to tell the high ups that maybe need a new way to verify us. Will hit the bank after lunch and report back then. This could also be an intepretation problem, like for a yellow house book it says if you have a work permit a copy must be included and if married a copy of certificate must be included, they read it as they 2 things are required not that only required if you have them at our Amphor office.
August 28, 2025Aug 28 You didn't ask for my advice so I won't charge you for it. 555 It's time to set Bangkok bank free.... and go get an account or two at some other bank(s). I like SCB and Krungsri better because they offer higher interest rates on accounts that can be used much like any other savings account.

August 28, 2025Aug 28 Author Well went in and they knew I wasnt happy I would say the one handling it goes to many branches, the girl I usually deal with stayed well away from me and talked to my wife; they copied my passport my expired Queensland driving license and my pink ID card and as stated above yeah maybe I will try elsewhereas it seems its only Bangkok bank.
August 28, 2025Aug 28 Do you still have a Medicare card. They are usually acceptable ID back in Australia so maybe here too.
