Cambodia’s iconic Angkor Wat has been crowned Asia’s most attractive tourist destination for 2025, according to TripAdvisor’s latest rankings, Prime Minister Hun Manet announced on Saturday.

The accolade, revealed via the Prime Minister’s official social media channels, places the ancient temple complex at the summit of TripAdvisor’s top 20 destinations in Asia. It marks a moment of pride for Cambodia, whose cultural heritage continues to captivate global travellers.

Located in northwest Siem Reap province, Angkor Wat is the centrepiece of the UNESCO-listed Angkor Archaeological Park—a sprawling 401-square-kilometre site housing 91 temples built between the ninth and 13th centuries. The park stands as a testament to the grandeur of the Khmer Empire and remains Cambodia’s most visited attraction.

Tourism figures reflect the site’s enduring appeal. Between January and July 2025, Angkor Wat welcomed 618,771 international visitors, a 5.8 per cent rise compared to the same period last year. Revenue from ticket sales reached $28.6 million, up 5.3 per cent year-on-year, according to data from Angkor Enterprise, the state-run ticketing agency.

The recognition comes amid Cambodia’s broader efforts to revitalise its tourism sector post-pandemic, with Angkor Wat serving as both a cultural beacon and economic engine. Its top ranking not only affirms its global stature but also signals renewed confidence in the country’s travel industry.

As the world’s wanderers continue to seek meaningful experiences, Angkor Wat’s blend of spiritual depth, architectural brilliance and historical significance ensures its place at the heart of Asia’s travel map.

Depends on your source, I guess.   Angkor is a wonderful travel destination, but another source shows that 2 other Asian places rank higher.

"The Grand Palace in Bangkok receives over eight million visitors per year, making it the city's most popular tourist attraction and one of the most visited palaces globally. It was ranked as the world's third most visited palace by Travel + Leisure magazine, behind the Forbidden City in Beijing and the Louvre Palace in Paris."

Grand Palace 500 Baht, Angkor Wat $37.

Apples and Pears but just saying.
