Hospital Stay (2weeks) Hk Or Sing

Featured Replies

I know this in not a true Thai question or issue but I'm hoping to draw on the experiance of TV members who have lived in one or the other of these places and can offer their opinions and experties.

My mom has come down with something serious and requires hospital care. she was medivaced out of

Mongolia to HK (closest most appropriate facility) she has been diagnosed with guiellen barre syndrome.

She's in the HK ICU at Adventist Hospital. It's a good facility, but can become pricy.

As a long time Singapore resident, with PR status, she feels more comfortable in S'pore.

My question for the knowledgable out there is: Health care with out insurance is more affodable in which country? Hong Kong (Adventist) or Singapore (Mount Elizabeth or Gleneagles)

Thank you for your thoughts and suggestions.

If no insurance, i would guess that Thailand will be the most affordable. Top range private hospitals here have excellent care (not second tire or below though!).

The best hospital in Thailand is Vichajud, and then Bumrungraj.

I don't have experience of the above 2 hospitals, but do have experience of Bangkok Pattaya hospitals (avoid) and in Chiang Mai the Ram hospital (very good, not expensive for the service they gave me, and they have long term rooms at what seemed like very good rates).

I don't know the condition, so step one would be to contact a specialist to see which hospital can provide appropriate care. This is critical, my experience of the Ram is based on finding good consultants for my condition. Speak to them - they will all say 'come here!' - but ask for a phone consultation and see how you feel.

best of luck to you

Thank you for the advice as it turns out she's not stable enough to be moved anytime in the next 2 weeks, so for the time being she'll be recuperating in HK.

I will do my research with the BKK hospitals for rehabilitation when she is more stable.

Again thank you for your input.

I am a HK resident, so can speak about HK Adventist hospital, which is one of most expensive private hospitals in HK. You can do a search on "adventist hospital hongkong" and go to their website and on the "services" menu you can download a pdf file of their room rates, which I see for ICU is HK$6,000 per night (abt baht 26,000) and that's just for the room, without food, medicine, consummables, physician care, etc, and the doctors who practice there probably charge top rates. I see also for non-residents of HK, there is an advance payment of HK$80,000 for ICU care (baht 350,000). Did your mother not have to pay this advance payment?

On the other hand, if one is a HK resident (with HK ID card), public health care is very inexpensive; going for treatment in a govt funded hospital is only HK$100 (baht 430) all in for any kind of treatment, including doctor fee, medicine, and a stay in a ward room at a govt hospital is only about HK$200 per day (baht 860) for doctor/nursing service, and something nominal like $10 (43 baht) for medicine. Non-HK residents at a govt hospital have a completely separate set of charges, but not as high as the Adventist Hospital's.
