September 1, 2025Sep 1 Aerial views of Chanthaburi city 2545/2002 and 2568/2025 showing the rapid growth of the city in 23 years. The canal has a series of dams; water storage and flood prevention to divert some of the river away from the central city area. Never-ending building, we've lived 15km away from the city since 2011 and our town also growing fast, when we moved here the road was two lanes, now a 4-6 lane highway is almost complete, 1km at time and now only 2km from us. Progress, and not such a sleepy place as when we got here. Still a great place to live for us.
October 27, 2025Oct 27 Chanthaburi Town is very difficult for pedestrians with really fast through traffic. Like the province and people so much especially the coast but not a fan of the town itself.
October 30, 2025Oct 30 Mango - yes Chantaburi grows as we watch. After living here for many years, its my impression that it's a relatively prosperous and friendly place to live. We live on the southern side which is convenient for Nong Bua and the coast. Every few months there is a new house around Pahkti Lamphai which is the enormous flood relief canal skirting the east of the town. In 30 years I expect that area to be fully developed, having already acquired Central and a new main Police station. I don't visit the other areas of town as I generally don't need to - we have any number of super restaurants within easy reach, including Koff House, Zi Punto, 'Our House', Platoo, Nen Hoi at Nong Bua amongst many others. But both the pandemic and later, a decline in the gemstone trade seems to have left it's mark with some popular venues having declined or closed altogether. Jim re. "Chanthaburi Town is very difficult for pedestrians with really fast through traffic" - I just don't get that at all. IMO Chan is much the same as anywhere else. Chantaburi is a great place to live IMO

Good turnout think that's 5th or 6th time we've run that course, choice of 5 or 10km. I've cycled along there since it was dirt when the canal was under construction, and somewhere along there, a stretch of concrete with mountainbike tyre imprints - that was me. It's a great project and as you say, so much development now on that side of the city. Still on a regular bike route for me, through Nong Bua to Laem Sing then along the coast and inland to home. First pic mine - stopped for the sunrise over the national park hills, second from a drone
November 7, 2025Nov 7 Thanks Mango, good pics. The Missis was tempted to do that run with some Friends . . Loi Katong we sat with Friends for beer/snacks near the Nong Bua end and the moon was beautiful over the water. I'd post them here off my phone IF i knew how . . . . ! I ride 2-3 times weekly from Nong Bua area to Laem Sing to see Friends for a coffee/chat. it's a nice quiet ride.
