Thailand has emerged as one of Southeast Asia’s fastest-growing markets for artificial intelligence, with OpenAI reporting that weekly active ChatGPT users in the country have quadrupled in the past year. The figures were announced on 12 September 2025 at the first OpenAI Forum in Thailand, which gathered more than 100 business leaders in Bangkok. The event marked the inaugural visit to the kingdom by OpenAI Chief Strategy Officer Jason Kwon.

The forum, titled “AI LEAP: Turning Today’s Disruption into Tomorrow’s Advantage,” was held at Bangkok’s House of Wisdom and moderated by media personality Woody Milintachinda. Kwon attributed the country’s rapid adoption of AI to its cultural optimism and adaptability, suggesting these qualities could help Thailand “leapfrog into the future” across sectors including education, healthcare, creativity and entrepreneurship. He told participants that belief and optimism may be the defining factors behind the nation’s strong embrace of AI.

Newly released data from OpenAI indicates that the surge in usage is primarily driven by people aged 18 to 24. Young Thais are incorporating ChatGPT into daily activities such as translation, personal development, tutoring, self-care in health and fitness, and writing assistance. This demographic trend highlights the role of younger generations in accelerating digital transformation across the country.

Business leaders also addressed the opportunities AI could create for greater social inclusion. KBTG Group Chairman Ruangroj “Krating” Poonpol, who spoke at the forum, said: “Technology must be a tool for inclusion, to help close the gap, not widen it. AI can provide a more level playing field, democratising access to intelligence and enabling young people to learn fast, create and leapfrog into the future.” His comments echoed broader calls for AI to reduce inequality while boosting innovation.

Industry experts highlighted Thailand’s established record of rapid technology adoption, from mobile banking to social media, as a competitive strength in the AI era. Poonpol described Thais as “fast learners and fast adopters,” while Milintachinda noted the nation’s international recognition for creativity, particularly in advertising and content creation. Speakers suggested that AI tools could enable Thai creators to develop new formats such as personalised filmmaking and innovative platforms.

The forum also underlined the importance of building a sustainable ecosystem for AI development. With strong youth engagement, governance frameworks already in place, and a commitment to inclusive growth, Thailand is positioned to expand its role in shaping how AI integrates into industries and daily life. The country’s rapid adoption reflects wider trends in Southeast Asia, where governments and businesses are embracing AI to support economic and social development.

Letting ChatGPT do their homework, in other words.

I still don't trust that information provided by AI can be correct, as I have experienced a few minutes ago.

I did a search to find what the hole size for a 3/8-18 NPT thread is, to determine if I had the correct size drill bit to drill a hole for that thread size.    NPT stands for National Pipe Thread, here in the U.S. of A..

AI responded saying the hole size for a 3/8-18 NPT was 1.999 inches.    The correct answer is  37/64, or .578125" inches.
