Trump Vows Probes of Left Groups After Charlie Kirk Killing

President Donald Trump has warned that left-leaning groups will face federal investigations following the fatal shooting of conservative activist Charlie Kirk. Speaking to reporters on Sunday, Trump claimed the political violence stemmed from the left, accusing its activists of being “scum” who burn the American flag and disparage the country.

“The problem is on the left. It’s not on the right,” Trump said, while refusing to name specific organizations. When pressed, he added only: “We’ll see. We’ll be announcing.” He also suggested that some left-affiliated groups are “already under investigation,” without offering evidence or details.

The comments came just days after Kirk, founder of Turning Point USA and a longtime Trump ally, was shot dead during an event at Utah Valley University. The alleged gunman, Tyler Robinson, was arrested by the FBI late Thursday.

Kirk’s murder has shaken conservative circles and the Trump campaign, as he played a central role in mobilizing young voters during the 2024 election. Trump has repeatedly linked the killing to the “radical left,” though no such motive has been confirmed by investigators.

On Saturday, Trump told NBC News that he wants to see the country “heal” but insisted that America is dealing with a “radical left group of lunatics.” He also confirmed plans to attend Kirk’s funeral in Arizona next Sunday, traveling there aboard Air Force One with members of his team.

“It’s a very sad weekend,” Trump said. “We lost a great person.”

The political fallout from Kirk’s death is expected to intensify as Trump and other Republicans amplify claims of left-wing extremism, even as official investigations continue.

Key Takeaways:

  • Trump blames the left for Charlie Kirk’s killing and vows probes.

  • FBI has arrested Tyler Robinson as the alleged shooter.

  • Trump to attend Kirk’s funeral in Arizona next Sunday.
