Chiang Rai authorities suppressing wagers made on outcome of public referendum

Authorities in Chiang Rai province affirm that they are keeping close watch on gambling establishments in neighboring countries in order to suppress possible wagers made on the outcome of the 2007 public referendum.

The Deputy Commander of the Chiang Rai provincial police, Pol. Col. Pratak Charoensin (ประทักษ์ เจริญศิลป์ ), reports that authorities are working to investigate rumors of possible wagers set on the outcome of the 2007 public referendum. Police officers are collecting information on possible gambling establishments in neighboring countries which Thai gamblers may visit. Pol. Col. Pratak affirms that Thai nationals found wagering on the public referendum will be arrested immediately.

Authorities are also keeping close watch on Mae Sot (แม่สาย) and Mai Sai (แม่สาย) districts due to the large number of casinos adjacent to these districts' border crossing area.
