September 28, 2025Sep 28 UN Sanctions Reimposed on Iran Amid Nuclear Tensions The UK, France, and Germany have urged Iran to avoid escalating tensions after the United Nations reimposed sweeping sanctions on Saturday. The sanctions target Tehran’s nuclear program following its continued non-compliance and refusal to cooperate with international inspectors. In a joint statement, the three countries said the measures were a “last resort” and emphasized that diplomacy remains open. They called on Iran to “refrain from any escalatory action” while pursuing negotiations to resolve the crisis. Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian condemned the sanctions as “unfair, unjust, and illegal” and reiterated that Tehran has no intention of developing nuclear weapons. He stressed that the resumption of sanctions could jeopardize ongoing talks with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). The sanctions mark the return of UN economic and military measures a decade after they were lifted under the 2015 Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA). They follow Iran’s increased nuclear activity after the United States withdrew from the deal in 2016, criticizing it as flawed. Diplomatic efforts at the UN General Assembly failed to secure a delay in the sanctions. The E3 countries highlighted Iran’s refusal to grant IAEA inspectors access to nuclear sites and its failure to provide reports on its stockpile of enriched uranium. Iran, while in ongoing discussions with the IAEA, has demanded assurances that its nuclear facilities will not face attacks, particularly from Israel. In response to the sanctions, Iran has recalled its ambassadors to Britain, France, and Germany for consultations. September 28, 2025Sep 28 The worst part is the government doesn't care in the least bit about their people. I worked with a young woman from Iran. The stories she told me about the way she and her fellow citizens suffered is unconscionable. The sanctions mean nothing to the barbarians in charge. I'm mostly a "live and let live" kinda guy, but that regime really needs to go.
September 28, 2025Sep 28 And what wil the signatories do if Israel or the USA bomb Iran again? Clutch at their pearls, stamp their feet, throw their toys out of the pram in a tantrum, or simply ignore it and carry on as usual?
