Cambodia Launches Direct Flights to Abu Dhabi to Boost Tourism

Cambodia has taken a major step towards attracting Middle Eastern travellers with the launch of its first direct flight route between Abu Dhabi and Phnom Penh. The new service, operated by Etihad Airways, was officially inaugurated on 3 October in a ceremony attended by nearly 200 dignitaries, including Cambodia’s Minister of Tourism Huot Hak and UAE Ambassador Obaid Saeed Obaid Bintaresh Aldhaheri.

Speaking at the event, held at Phnom Penh’s Rosewood Hotel, Minister Huot Hak described the route as more than a transport link — calling it a “bridge of friendship, cooperation, and shared prosperity” between the two nations. He emphasised that the flights would not only make Cambodia’s cultural and natural attractions more accessible to UAE travellers, but also help raise the country’s profile among Middle Eastern investors.

Etihad Airways, based in Abu Dhabi and recognised as a global aviation leader, will operate four weekly flights on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. The move positions Cambodia as a rising destination in the region’s travel landscape, offering a gateway to Angkor Wat, pristine coastlines, and vibrant urban experiences.

The direct connection is expected to strengthen bilateral ties and open new opportunities in tourism, trade, and cultural exchange. With Cambodia keen to diversify its visitor base beyond traditional markets, the new route signals a strategic pivot towards the Gulf region.

As the flights begin, officials hope the initiative will spark fresh interest in Cambodia’s offerings and encourage long-term partnerships across sectors. For Middle Eastern travellers, the Kingdom is now just one flight away.
