Donald Trump and World Leaders Sign Gaza Ceasefire Deal

In a major development, the US, Egypt, Qatar, and Türkiye have signed a historic declaration to promote and uphold a ceasefire in Gaza. The announcement comes as families await news about 24 deceased hostages still held by Hamas, shortly after the reunion of the last surviving hostages with their families and friends. US President Donald Trump marked this diplomatic breakthrough with his speech in Israel before heading to Egypt to finalise the deal.

President Trump highlighted the opportunity to rebuild Gaza after two tumultuous years of conflict, declaring it a "once-in-a-lifetime chance" to resolve enduring disputes. The summit's host, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sissi, took the occasion to renew his call for a two-state solution as a path to lasting peace. Joining the event was Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas, who became a last-minute addition after receiving an invitation the night before.

Significantly, representatives from Hamas and Israel were absent. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, though invited, declined to attend due to the proximity of a holiday. This absence underscores the complex diplomatic landscape and the deep divides that still exist despite the ceasefire agreement.

The accord came mere hours after Hamas released 20 hostages captured in October 2023. While this was a moment of relief for many, a group representing the hostages' families accused Hamas of breaching the deal by not returning more of the deceased. They issued a statement demanding action from Israel's government and international mediators to rectify what they see as a grave injustice.

The return of the hostages prompted Israel to release nearly 2,000 Palestinian prisoners, including individuals serving life sentences.

This chain of events follows the violent escalation on October 7, 2023, when Hamas's attacks resulted in approximately 1,200 deaths and the capture of 250 hostages. Israel's subsequent military campaign in Gaza led to nearly 68,000 casualties, according to the Gaza Health Ministry. The conflict drew widespread international attention, with calls for intervention from various global leaders.

Prior to the Egyptian summit, President Trump visited Israel, where he met families of the released hostages and addressed the Knesset. His speech focused on Israel's accomplishments and the importance of translating military victories into long-term peace and prosperity for the Middle East. Trump underscored his commitment to assisting in Gaza's reconstruction, urging Palestinians to reject paths of terror and violence in favour of economic development and stability.

President Trump emphasised the need for Gazans to rebuild their lives and communities by focusing on stability, safety, and economic growth. He highlighted the potential for a better future for Gaza's children, advocating for a shift from decades of conflict to peace and opportunity.

The implications of the ceasefire deal are multi-faceted, with potential impacts on regional stability, humanitarian efforts, and international relations. The commitment to rebuild Gaza is likely to attract global attention, with international organisations possibly playing a role in the reconstruction and development plans.

The US and its Arab partners now face the challenge of translating this diplomatic agreement into tangible progress on the ground. Monitoring and maintaining the ceasefire will require continued international cooperation and mediation to ensure compliance from all parties involved.

Key Takeaways:

  • A ceasefire deal for Gaza signed by the US, Egypt, Qatar, and Türkiye marks a major diplomatic effort.
  • Hostage families demand action over partial compliance by Hamas regarding the return of deceased hostages.
  • President Trump's visit and commitment to Gaza's rebuilding spotlight the focus on long-term peace and prosperity.

Neither Israeli nor Hamas representatives were present at the summit. Sources told AFP that Israeli premier Benjamin Netanyahu was forced to back out of his attendance due to other state leaders not wanting him there.

Pressure from the far right of his party is more likely. "Sources told" is not the best source and the article you base your comment on comes from The New Region.

I like the heading - "Donald Trump and World Leaders Sign Gaza Ceasefire Deal" - Trump and World Leaders, therefore Trump is not considered a world leader; if he was then the heading would have been - "Donald Trump and Other World Leaders Sign Gaza Ceasefire Deal".

A good start but a long way to go. Worryingly Hamas still appear to be highly visible in Gaza.

I give it a week before Bibi uses the slightest excuse to continue bombing.

I'm going for the non return of all the dead being his excuse. Although it's kind of hard to return something when a lunatic has bombed 90% of the area the bodies are supposedly in .

Netanyahu's conspicuous absence is bad news.

Can anyone tell me who else in the world has put any time and effort themselves to do what Trump has done ?????  The answer is NO they have just sat on the sideline yelling it can't be done and if this fails then it won't be Trumps fault. The Arabs leaders hold a fair bit of slay  in Gasa and the fact that they are on board will help this succeed.

A ceasefire is NOT a Peace Deal. Any more than Russia's ceasefire with Ukraine led to a peace deal.

Netanyahu's absence is foretelling there is NO peace deal in the near future. Palestinians want a 2-state solution to peace Netanyahu wants a one-state solution. Paradoxically, many Israeli's want a two-state solution. Trump alleges he doesn't know anything about either solution.

Absolutely, let us hope the peace deal/ceasefire holds!!

Miraculously the Hamas “freedom fighters” have found their uniforms now and are proudly wearing them while they execute fellow Palestinians.

There is no hope for Palestine. It’s only a matter of time before they attack Israeli civilians again. These animals want wiping out for good.

It is being reported from Israeli that 4 bodys returned yesterday are not hostages. So either Hamas are lyeing or they thought they could just send a few bodys to make it appear there dead hostages.

I don't honestly think that the "peace" will even last that long.

I might have agreed with you IF Israel and Hamas had been at the signing. That neither was represented, makes the whole thing a bit of a sham.

Post the ceasefire Hamas are openly torturing and shooting dead alleged collaborators on the streets in Gaza. This may indeed trigger a response from Israel, but that remains to be seen.

Clip I seen yesterday of the people Israel killed a day or two ago for crossing some invisible line literally showed them being killed by a tank shell from around 200m away .

It's become quite clear than many of the Palestinian flag waving Keffir crew would rather see the war continue than give any credit to Trump.

Or maybe they're just enjoying the "mostly peaceful" protests too much?

And WTF do those countries not Israel & Palestine have to do with it anyway??? Remember Yalta?
