A tourist from Dubai accidentally drove his rented motorbike into a pond at Wat Mai Samran, also known as Wat Koh Larn, in Pattaya, sparking laughter from monks and villagers who rushed to help. The incident occurred on 12 October 2025 and was later shared widely online after a 35-second video was posted by local rescuer Kalaya Mode Thong on Facebook.

The clip shows three monks and several villagers struggling to pull a yellow Honda Click scooter from the shallow fish pond beside the shrine of revered monk Luang Pu Tuad. The drenched tourist, who was uninjured, stood in the pond as his girlfriend laughed uncontrollably. Kalaya’s caption, “True divine intervention—one thousand events in a day”, captured the humour of the moment as viewers shared the post thousands of times.

According to Kalaya, head of the Koh Larn rescue unit, she had just returned from another emergency call when she saw the couple arriving at the temple. The woman dismounted to take photos of the shrine and large Phra Phrom statue at the front, while the man rode the scooter around the area. “Suddenly, he twisted the throttle by mistake and the bike shot straight into the pond,” she said. “Everyone, including the monks, ran to help. He was embarrassed but fine, just soaking wet.”

The pond, known locally as “Luang Pu Tuad’s Pond,” measures about 4.5 by 4.5 metres and is roughly waist deep. Locals use it to rear fish and it sits directly beside the temple’s main shrine. Although the motorbike suffered some engine damage from water exposure, there was no harm to the temple or the pond itself.

After being rescued, the Dubai man apologised repeatedly, explaining that the incident was unintentional. He promised to pay all repair costs to the local bike owner. The monks, finding humour in the situation, declined to press charges or take further action, while villagers described the event as one of the most light-hearted incidents at the temple in recent memory.

He should of got off the bike first to to release the fish

Should Thailand ban all tourists from Dubai?

Did he have a drivers license for motorbike? Lucky that neither fish or people were injured!

He would no doubt have a Goat Pluckers license

Maybe he was abandoning the one true faith and trying to baptize himself & claim Jesus as his personal savior. Hmm problem with apostasy... have to take Saudi off of possible travel stops

Many of these blokes from dry countries go ape shnit when they get to Thailand or anywhere the drink is freely available.

Dubai might be sparkling with gold and overflowing with cash, but it's ultra conservative and fundamentalist too.

Check this guy's license, blood alc level and then toss him out for reckless driving.

I thought the unofficial event was already here

Maybe he thought having the bike baptized might bring him luck.

The motorbike is a write off. How will he settle this? I expect a dispute.

It's funny until you think that he could just as easily hit and injured a pedestrian. And still, nothing will change, they will rent to anyone even if they don't have a motorcycle license.

Accidentally "twisted the throttle," I would check his licence, this is a mistake usually made by non/learner riders.

Probably.

I'd love to watch him try to explain it to where he rented the bike from. They'll want him to buy a new bike, of course.

Well likely the contract he signed makes him liable for the full value/cost of the bike. Many fail to register that when renting.
