A brave police sergeant has been honoured with the King's Commendation for Bravery after tackling a knife-wielding assailant in a terrifying attack. Sgt Tim Ansell leapt to the defence of his colleague, Sgt Marc Foster, who was suddenly attacked by 27-year-old Jacob Brown in Whalley Range, Greater Manchester. The incident occurred in July 2023, when officers were discussing a road collision with a driver.

Brown launched a vicious assault, stabbing and slashing both Sgt Ansell and Sgt Foster before PC Marcus Wolstencroft managed to subdue him with a Taser. The Greater Manchester Police released chilling body-worn and dashboard camera footage capturing Brown, dressed in black with a hood, as he approached Sgt Foster from behind with a knife. The footage shows Sgt Foster stumbling to the ground.

The quick and courageous actions of the officers were widely praised, with Sgt Ansell's commendation highlighting their bravery under pressure. Experts have noted that such commendations serve to remind the public of the dangers officers face daily. This incident has sparked discussions about officer safety and the need for continued support and resources for law enforcement personnel.

Looking forward, the police continue to enforce measures to ensure the safety of their officers in hostile situations. The commendations provide a moment to reflect on the sacrifices officers make and highlight the ongoing risks involved in policing.

Key Takeaways:

  • Sgt Tim Ansell awarded the King's Commendation for Bravery.
  • Jacob Brown attacked officers during a routine road incident in July 2023.
  • PC Marcus Wolstencroft disabled the assailant with a Taser, ensuring safety.

Thankfully, there are still good guys without a gun.

It's not only London that has a massive knife problem.

This guy should have already been off the streets after previous random violent attacks on members of the public. Probably needed the cells for the tweeters.

No need to worry - New York is still more dangerous.

To that I say, anyone who attacks someone with a knife like this guy did needs to get mowed down….

The cops in the UK are way too soft and “toothless”and the crims know it and therefore they don’t respect them at all!

I wouldn't say they were soft, just that they take the "protect and serve" phrase seriously.

Yeah, well, if that leads to common disrespect and more incidences like this one they have to deal with, then it's the wrong way to go about it.
