A grandmother in Nakhon Nayok has filed a police complaint after her six-year-old grandson suffered head and body injuries when attacked by dogs, while the pet owner allegedly dismissed responsibility and offered minimal compensation.

On 25 October 2025, Ms. Kawin Sunwun, 57, from Saraburi, reported the incident to Pol. Lt. Col. Prakrong Chaimoon at Mueang Nakhon Nayok Police Station. She said the attack occurred on 23 October at around 16:30 at Wang Ree Resort in Khao Phra subdistrict, when two Thai-breed dogs ran towards her grandson, Master Natthaphat Srisawat and one bit his head and arm.

Local residents rushed the injured boy to Nakhon Nayok Hospital, where doctors issued a medical certificate confirming he had sustained bite wounds to his head and right arm. He was diagnosed with multiple lacerations, including a deep wound on the side of his head that required seven stitches.

Following treatment, Ms. Kawin attempted to negotiate compensation with the dogs’ owner for medical costs and damages. However, she said the owner blamed her for not supervising the child, remarking, “Why didn’t you watch the boy? Why let him play alone outside?” The owner reportedly offered only 4,000 baht and added, “If you want more, go ahead and sue.” The grandmother noted that the area was a communal space meant for exercise and recreation.

Feeling the offer was unreasonable and that the owner had shown no real accountability, Ms. Kawin filed a formal complaint, seeking full legal action. The case is now under police investigation to determine potential criminal and civil liabilities.

Under Thai law, dog owners may face both criminal and civil penalties if they fail to control their animals. Section 377 of the Criminal Code stipulates imprisonment of up to one month or a fine of up to 10,000 baht for negligence involving dangerous animals. More severe penalties may apply under Sections 390 or 300 if injury results, and Section 291 in cases leading to death.

In civil terms, Section 433 of the Civil and Commercial Code requires owners or keepers of animals to compensate for damages unless they prove due care or contributory fault by the victim. Additionally, the Prevention of Cruelty and Animal Welfare Act (2014), Section 23, prohibits owners from abandoning or neglecting their animals, with fines up to 40,000 baht for violations.

Authorities are expected to continue investigating to ensure legal accountability and to prevent similar attacks in communal or residential areas.

Key Takeaways

• A six-year-old boy was hospitalised after being mauled by dogs at a Nakhon Nayok resort.

• The dog owner offered only 4,000 baht in compensation and told the family to “sue if you want more.”

• Police are investigating possible criminal and civil charges under Thai animal control laws.

Dogs are never a problem until it's one of YOURS who gets attacked.

Put the mutt to death.  .45 round to the head in a remote area.

Just a matter of time before they attack again.

I hate irresponsible dog owners.

I wholeheartedly agree with you. It is highly reprehensible that dogs are protected by law, given that there are daily problems with dogs, many of which are fatal in traffic.
Just one street away from my home, a woman was seriously injured on her moped when a dog suddenly ran across the road. That was one of the reasons I stopped cycling years ago.
And yes, go ahead and give me a thumbs down, until it happens to you.

Irresponsible. I am not surprised.

Where's Kristi Noem when we need her?

Police should be asking the dog owner why they weren't supervising the dogs in a public area?

That certainly made sense.

Years ago I was attacked by a dog I had ruined pants, multiple bite and scratch wounds, and had to get rabies shots... and the police officers just told me I was lucky that I had not hurt the dog while fending it off or I would have been facing criminal charges... they did absolutely nothing regarding the dog or its owner!

My friend has still not recovered after being knocked off his bike by a stray dog six months ago. The irony is that he goes out to feed stray dogs. Biting the hand that feeds you?

I couldn't have put it better myself!

...Time To 'Put Some Bite' Into The Legislation... (?)

...Should Not Be Up To The Victims To Pursue Compensation Against The Guilty/Negligent Party.. (?)

...'A Public/Common Area For Exercise'... For People, Methinks...(?)

Good info on Thai Laws citing Section number, Name, and some details.

My interpretation from above info is there is

No laws regarding your Dog roaming outside it's owners property.

No laws requiring you to Leash the dog when off the owner's property.

That if someone is attacked it is Best to have the medical staff detail the injuries and source of the injuries.

Maybe parents need to teach there children some techniques or actions to take if threatened by a dog.

I know here the kids walk to convenience stores and around streets where they are not familiar to the dogs.

Lastly, the comment above about being in trouble for defending and possibly injuring the dog to limit or stop the attack I'm discounting.  I advise to use your options to stop the attack without permanently injuring or making the dog devoid of life if reasonably possible.
