Cyber police have issued a warning about a new scam in which fraudsters impersonate hospital staff, claiming a relative is critically ill and urging immediate money transfers. The warning was posted by the Cyber Crime Division.

The scam uses accurate personal information to appear credible. Victims are contacted politely, addressed by name and told that a family member has been injured and requires urgent payment for treatment. Scammers may claim that the injured relative has insurance with the victim as a beneficiary, promising reimbursement exceeding the transferred amount.

Cyber police noted that the method is increasingly sophisticated and preys particularly on the elderly, who are more likely to trust such calls. The scammers’ urgency and detailed knowledge of the victim’s personal data make the calls highly persuasive.

Authorities advised the public to remain calm and not transfer money immediately. People should contact their relatives or the hospital directly to verify the situation. Cyber police also encouraged reporting any incidents or suspicious activity via the online portal at www.thaipoliceonline.go.th or by calling the 24-hour hotline 1441.

Key Takeaways

• Fraudsters impersonate hospital staff to pressure victims into urgent money transfers.

• Scams use accurate personal details to appear credible, targeting particularly elderly individuals.

• Victims are urged to verify directly with family or hospitals and report incidents promptly.
