Michigan Lawyer Says FBI ‘Pumpkin Day’ Terror Plot Never Existed

A Michigan defense attorney has hit back at FBI Director Kash Patel’s dramatic claim that federal agents foiled a Halloween terror attack, saying his 20-year-old client and four others were simply young gamers—not terrorists plotting a “pumpkin day” massacre.

Amir Makled, representing a man from Dearborn, told reporters that Patel’s allegations were baseless and that federal officials had provided “very few details” since the arrests. “I don’t know where this hysteria and fearmongering came from,” he said, adding that he expects no charges will be filed.

The suspects—aged 16 to 20—were arrested Friday after online chatter referencing “pumpkin day” drew FBI attention. Two sources briefed on the investigation told the Associated Press the discussion occurred in a chatroom and included vague Halloween references, prompting the bureau to act out of caution.

Despite Patel’s post on X claiming the FBI “thwarted a potential terrorist attack,” both federal and state agencies have since gone quiet, declining to release evidence of any operational plan or weaponry. Authorities insist there is “no ongoing threat to public safety.”

Makled insists the teens were discussing games, not jihad. “If these young men were on forums they shouldn’t have been on, we’ll have to wait and see,” he said. “But I don’t believe there’s anything illegal about what they were doing.”

The FBI maintains that the alleged plan was inspired by ISIS propaganda, though insiders acknowledge it’s unclear whether the suspects had the means—or even intent—to launch an attack. The arrests, one official said, were driven by the calendar: “It was Halloween, and the reference to ‘pumpkin’ was enough.”

Key Takeaways

  • FBI Director Kash Patel claimed agents stopped a Halloween terror plot in Michigan.

  • Defense lawyer says there was no plot, describing the suspects as online gamers aged 16–20.

  • Federal authorities have released no evidence and have yet to file charges, fueling accusations of fearmongering.

'Patel claims', makes anything very likely not true. He probably needed some attention.

He could have looked at Mississippi, but that wouldn't fit trump's agenda.

Very common, I imagine, for terrorists to use open forum chat rooms to plot their attacks.

I wouldn't be surprised if we don't learn one (or more) of the online gamers involved were FBI provocateurs.

Same-same as when the FBI infiltrates mosques, locates disaffected autistic teens, grooms and radicalizes them, designs a plan for them, provides them with electronics and a few pipe bombs, sets them loose, and then rides in at the last second to save the day.......and then publicizes it and requests increased funding.

From what I read, there was an undercover agent in the chat room. No details have been given about his role.

Yeah, only for terrorism of course, never for running any scams.

Exactly, but trying to push back these MAGA muppet claims with facts is impossible.

Well, well, well. Patel, always trying to curry Trump's favour and attention, once again stepped in it with both feet by going public early.

Exactly what one would expect from this administration of utter and complete clowns.😄

Of course, any defense attorney would put out any argument to defend their client, otherwise they wouldn’t be doing their job.

True. I think the lack of information from the FBI is telling though. Even more so, since they feel the need to comment on anything, even if it potentially hurts their case.

Quell surprise…….allways the drama with the trump todys.
