Many posted which I agree with but really enjoyed Kath & Kim, ABC (Australia).

i dunno, Kath & Kim never did it for me, although I liked their work in the "comedy company" & "fast forward" all those years back.

The Glasshouse on ABC was probably the best Australian comedy ive seen.

I think The Big Gig (Wendy Harmer before she went commercial) did it better before The Glasshouse, but I enjoyed it too.

I almost forgot, one of the funniest series I saw was "Scare Tactics" where they set people up and caught them on camera having the <deleted> scared out of them.

I remember one show where a real gorilla at a zoo was replaced by an actor in a realisitc gorilla suit who started going ape in his large enclosure, eventually breaking down the gate and chasing and cornering helpless victims before revealing his true identity. :o

The Simpsons and Seinfeld for me. Cheers is a close runner-up.

A couple that haven't been mentioned;

The Trailer Park Boys

Takes a certain sense of humour to appreciate it but it's worth a look. Probably best to watch it from the beginning as it is largely character driven and understanding and "knowing" the characters makes it much better.

Curb Your Enthusiasm

Based loosely on the real life of Larry David, one of the creators of Seinfeld. Very clever.

1. Seinfeld

(In no particular order)

The Fast show ( Love the latin american news bit)

Cheers

Not the nine o´clock news

Simpsons/Family guy/South park (same, same but different)

SNL (Chris Farley, David Spade, Kevin Nealon etc era)

Talksoup (Greg Kinnear)

Kids in the hall

Fawlty Towers

Alan Partridge (forgot the name of his talkshow)

Dave Chapelle Show

Its interesting to consider how comedy shows age. Do they still seem really good over time?

For example, I loves Monty Python's Flying Circus as a kid. But I would never watch those old shows now. I can't imagine ever not seeing the humor in a Seinfeld classic. And, btw, wasn't Seinfeld a huge hit in Japan?
