An Indian tourist was denied boarding her flight home from Chiang Mai airport on Tuesday due to medical concerns following a motorbike accident. The traveller, who suffered a broken arm, dislocated neck, and inflamed lungs, was flagged by airport medics, leading airline staff to refuse her boarding. The situation was managed promptly with assistance from Thai tourist police and the Indian consulate-general.

The issue arose when airline staff discovered the woman’s medical condition, which required oxygen support and nurse care, without prior notification. This resulted from injuries sustained in a motorbike accident in Pai district, Mae Hong Son. Recognizing the severity and complexity of the situation, Thai authorities moved swiftly to ensure the traveller received necessary care and support.

Tourist police, collaborating with the Indian consulate-general in Chiang Mai, successfully secured medical attention for the woman at a local public hospital. Here, she will receive specialized care while arrangements for her safe return to India are made. The swift response highlights the emphasis on traveller safety and international cooperation in handling emergencies.

Looking forward, Thai officials are coordinating with airline representatives and medical teams to facilitate the woman's return journey. This incident underscores the importance of informing airlines of any medical conditions pre-flight to prevent similar occurrences. The collaborative actions taken are expected to serve as a protocol model for future incidents requiring diplomatic and medical intervention.

A good call, although inconvenient to the family trying to get her home.

Looks like a very sensible and caring piece of work by the airport and airline staff.  A pain (pun intended) for the traveller of course, but safety first.

I guess they didn't really understand the need to ask the airline about oxygen provision etc.  My ex-mother-in-law had to travel with oxygen due to emphysema and I know it can be difficult to arrange, and notice needs to be given that might not have been possible in this case.

As a side note, a dislocated neck!  She bloomin' lucky not to be paralysed!  I hope there's a happy ending to this story soon.

good work Royal Thai Tourist Police.
