Trump Slams Kyiv's Leadership as Geneva Ukraine Talks Intensify

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio expressed optimism about productive talks in Geneva between American and Ukrainian officials, aiming to halt the war in Ukraine. Rubio highlighted the discussions as "probably the most productive and meaningful" yet, signalling potential adjustments to the Trump administration’s 28-point peace plan. Meanwhile, Ukraine's chief of staff, Andriy Yermak, echoed this positivity, extending gratitude to US President Donald Trump for his peacekeeping efforts.

President Trump, however, criticised Kyiv's leadership for showing "zero gratitude" toward US peace efforts, posting his frustrations on Truth Social. Trump has set a deadline for Ukraine to accept the US-backed proposal, which has faced criticism for its concessions. Many view the proposal as an initial draft that requires further refinement, highlighting the principle of avoiding forceful border changes.

Ukrainian President Zelensky responded by expressing thanks to the US and Trump, hoping for a positive outcome from ongoing dialogue in Geneva. The meetings, gathering top US, Ukrainian, and European officials, have attracted global attention, with Western leaders expressing both concern and hope. Many view the proposal as an initial draft that requires further refinement, highlighting the principle of avoiding forceful border changes.

Looking forward, a meeting between Russia and the US about the proposal is in the works, though not yet scheduled for Geneva. European Council President António Costa announced a meeting of EU leaders on Monday, followed by a video call for the "coalition of the willing" to support Kyiv on Tuesday. The diplomatic whirlwind continues, with scepticism and optimism intertwined as the deadline swiftly approaches, reported CNN.

Key Takeaways:

  • US-Ukraine talks in Geneva show signs of progress but met with mixed reactions.
  • Trump's peace proposal deadline looms amid criticism and scepticism.
  • Upcoming meetings aim to continue diplomatic efforts for conflict resolution.

Gratitude? For asking Ukraine to give up its own territory and the people who live there. With such an idiot of a USA president, the Russians are having the best time of their life, party time and drinking straight out of the bottle. Trump doesn't even realize Russians are laughing at him.

It is well known at this point that Moscow drafted the agreement that Trump is now promoting, and that's a real slap in the face to Ukraine. The US has consistently showed Ukraine an extraordinary lack of respect and Trump continues to show a great deal of fealty and obedience to King Vlad.

There is no reason for Ukraine to accept the terms of this ridiculous agreement. And Trump is making himself a laughing stock of the planet by supporting Russia, and continuing to lend support to a genocidal serial killing despot dictator.

Long live Ukraine. Russia stinks.

This plan is nothing but Putin's wish list and not Washington's positions as Marco Rubio tried to deceive us. This was called out by a group of bipartisan senators. Trump is a mouthpiece for Putin. Shameful act of betrayal of America values to be a stooge of Putin.

Word traitor has got a new synonym 😞

Putin is both a devious and clever operator. He likely foresaw the whole scenario. With such a one-track minded simpleton in the WH, he must be rubbing his hands.

Trump wants that Nobel Peace price and would sell out anyone to get it!

It is SO easy to sit behind a desk and give away a country and its people that don't belong to you. In fact if it IS so easy, why doesn't Trump make an example by giving Alaska back to Russia and throw in his Mar-a-Lago estate as a sweetener to Putin as a personal gift.

I am sure that Putin would accept, though I am not so sure the citizens of the USA, especially Alaska, would be quite so happy about it.

Oh please Mr Trump, will you stop spreading so much peace and understanding. Since you became the “Peace President” the world is loving itself to death.

I believe we can have peace in out time ... Neville trump. This is nothing more than a surrender document.

Oh?  I'm sure I saw on the BBC Zelensky saying 'thank you' many times in the recent past.

No chance the BBC would have cobbled together a "thank you" from other sources, unrelated to the USA...

Oh dear. The process is called negotiation. It usually kicks off with some fairly outrageous demands from one or both sides, and through the process these demands are whittled down to what will hopefully be a solution acceptable to both sides. It requires time and patience. It does not require ignorant comments from bystanders who have never been involved in the process.

The question really should be asked what does Putin have on Trump every dirty pictures of him maybe dirt that shows how Russian build them out when he was in financial problems who must have something very good on Trump because you’ve been one side for this whole fair he’s the biggest can I can’t believe that people voted for this gotta be president he’s gonna destroy America

Why Ukrainians might think that this negotiation process differs from the norm is because the outrageous demands usually come from the other side (Russia) and not from one of your supposed allies (the US).

Ukraine has the power to say NO.

It's time for the powerful Europeans to take control of the situation.  LOL.

Did you see Zelensky earlier today saying mournfully, The choice is between indignity and losing the US? No, you crooked little billionaire, the choice is between:

a. Acknowledging you effed up listening to fat Boris and leaving the Istanbul talks in '22, owning that it's all gone horribly wrong since, and signing off on territories you'll lose anyway hoping the Russians let you keep enough to call a country.

b. Fight and have those territories and much more taken by force.

Incidentally, option a. the Azov-Nazis line you up against a wall, option b. the Russians line you up against a wall. Yep, it sucks either way, little fella.

Trump would not know how to negotiate his way out of a paper bag if his entire life dependent upon it. Using a draft from Moscow is not exactly what I would call a promise and start to a sincere negotiation.

And on the BBC Mews this morning there was this report.

https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cpd6qd10l94o

"Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has welcomed proposed changes to the controversial 28-point peace plan for ending the war with Russia.

It appears Ukraine's European allies produced an amended version of the plan after rejecting parts which favoured Russia's war aims.

"Now the list of necessary steps to end the war can become doable..." Zelensky said on Telegram. "Many correct elements have been incorporated into this framework."

Something different from the other plan that was supposedly written by Russia and denied by the US State Department, though why they would own up to it is beyond me.

Well we've already seen on multiple occasions that Trump is a traitor to his nation, his people, and his allies.

Many of Trump's "Peace Plans" have been seen, bit how many of them have actually worked on reality?

How about some examples from you, on how many "Peace Plans" have worked in reality?
