Hundreds of protestors have taken to the streets in East Sussex to voice their opposition to a government plan to house asylum seekers at a military site. The Home Office intends to accommodate up to 540 single male asylum seekers at an army training camp near Crowborough for approximately one year. This proposal, first announced in October, has sparked significant local and national debate.

In response, Wealden District Council, the local governing body, has formally opposed the government's plan. They passed a motion against it and issued a planning contravention notice to the Home Office. The Home Office stated, “We are continuing to engage with local authorities and stakeholders to address the concerns of those most impacted by the sites,” highlighting their commitment to relocating asylum seekers from hotels to more suitable accommodations like military bases.

National campaigners supported Sunday's protest, but local participants insisted their attendance was not politically motivated. Ken Adams, a Crowborough resident, expressed his opposition, criticising the government's decision as “ill-advised” and stating that the issue should have been resolved by previous administrations. Wearing individual numbers to symbolise the potential arrival of migrants, the demonstrators chanted slogans such as "Crowborough says no" and "protect our community."

Sussex Police noted their efforts to minimise disruption during the protest, confirming no arrests were made and maintaining peace, as with previous demonstrations. The planning contravention notice from Wealden District Council seeks to identify any potential challenges under planning law. However, enforcement powers can only be used once a breach of planning control has been established, as per council guidelines, reported the BBC.

Key Takeaways:

  • Hundreds protested the plan to house asylum seekers at a military site in Crowborough.
  • Wealden District Council formally opposes the plan and issued a planning notice to the Home Office.
  • Sussex Police maintained order during the protest, with no arrests reported.

Good to see Briidh citizens protesting.  You get the feeling the thousands of illegal  immigrants will be responsible for some kind of disturbance or uprising  in the future.

They are having too much fun at the moment raping all the young British girls they can find.

Good idea. House them in military barracks, train them for the year, then chuck them on the front line in Ukraine. That’s how you pay your way. No free rides!

The Labour Government have brought this on the British people 🙄

Promising to stop the boats and illegal immigration

Don't keep blaming the previous Conservative Government who were just as bad doing nothing

The Prime Minister 2 Tier Kier needs to resign and someone  with a pair take control of the situation

I was thinking before accommodation barges moored offshore either north or Irish Sea whilst the single men housed there can have  asylum cases assessed. Without worrying they might dissappear into system for years and forgotten about

Standby for the counter protest by you know who.

Ukraine  likely wont exist in a year.

Have you got a link to prove that ?

The UK government continues to put the best interests of asylum seekers  and illegal immigrants, ahead of the best interests of the British people.

They would probably be more comfortable in Gaza fighting alongside hamas or hezbollah against the Jews.

Seems unkind to deny them that "opportunity".

Maybe hamas or the white Islington Libs could fund the plane ticket?

It is history repeating itself, and I did wonder if they would do this.

When Ide Armin kicked all the Indians out of Uganda back in 1972 they come to the UK and a lot were put in these old army camps, no protest then.

I used to know this camp, worked nearby for 2 years  . The army camp is on heath land ,it uses to get very bleak they in the winter, some of these asylum seekers might wish they were back home.

The only links that I have got are some old cufflinks that my father left me but if you should read or listen to the British news and you will be informed about the numerous rapes on young girls by the illegal morons who are living in 4 star hotels at he taxpayers expense.

Hope they don’t escape these guys have been proven to be a bit rapey especially on underage girls

That has been the plan for a very long time.
