Thai organiser sues Miss Universe over disputed ‘dumbhead’ remar

Thai organiser Nawat Itsaragrisil filed a defamation complaint against the newly crowned Miss Universe, Fatima Bosch, following the Miss Universe 2025 pageant. Bosch, representing Mexico, alleged that Nawat insulted her by calling her a "dumbhead" during a pre-pageant event on November 4 in Bangkok, leading to a tense confrontation.

The conflict began when Nawat accused Bosch of failing to post sponsor-related content on her social media, a requirement by the organising committee. Bosch, attempting to clarify her stance, was allegedly told by Nawat to listen instead of speaking, which led to her leaving in tears. Bosch later shared with the media that she was insulted by the term "dumbhead"—a claim Nawat strongly denies, though he did apologise for his behaviour.

Despite the fallout, Bosch clinched the Miss Universe title, becoming the fourth Mexican to do so. However, the tension escalated as the Miss Universe Thailand Facebook page revealed on December 3 that Miss Grand International, led by Nawat, had initiated legal proceedings against Bosch. Nawat lodged a police complaint on November 12, accusing Bosch of derogatory remarks harming his reputation.

Miss Grand International clarified that Nawat’s words during the incident did not include the insult Bosch mentioned. The organisation says Bosch continued to spread the allegation in interviews without attempting to retract it or apologise. This prompted a firm warning from the company, indicating that further legal actions will follow if the accusations persist and advising media outlets to tread carefully to avoid legal repercussions, reported The THaiger.

Key Takeaways

  • Miss Universe 2025 Fatima Bosch faces a defamation lawsuit filed by Thai organiser Nawat Itsaragrisil.
  • The conflict originated from Bosch's refusal to post sponsor-related content, escalating into a verbal dispute.
  • Legal proceedings have been launched, with potential further actions for continued defamatory claims.

Yes, but this country exists in an alternate reality where someone who behaves like an imbecile can sue the person who calls them out on it if that imbecilic behaviour causes damage to the imbecile's reputation.  I rarely criticize Thailand's laws but this one really discourages the concept of personal responsibility.

The clown may get a judgement against the defendant, but it won't be enforceable. Thailand will just be subjected to further ridicule and embarrassment. Dude should crawl back under his rock and wait for things to blow over.

The whole world has seen how he treated Miss Bosch and the other contestants... The truth hurts but in Thailand it is not done to stand up against such arrogant people and they always will sue you for defamation..Nawat should be removed form the organisation and keep his mouth shut..

The saving face thing is in play here. Caught out for being a complete moron so only defence is attack. Apology is not on the menu.

This pathetic little baby is still at it. What’s he going to do, take it to the international criminal court? HE ABUSED HER! She’ll just laugh at him. Hope Thailand never gets to hold MU again.

Considering all the ruckus, Thai organisers will be very lucky if they are given the rights to organise this event again within the next 20 years... 😆

T I T T (this is thai temper)

A new sore thai emerging -again.

Thais must be the most "easily offended" people on this planet 🙂

It looks like Thailand is now going to show the international world how Thai defamation laws are used.
Just image the international news coverage for this. Really, where do you think international public opinion is going to fall on this topic?

All this unnecessary defamation suit will accomplish it to put Thai defamation laws in the crosshairs of international focus, and in turn will turn the spotlight of attention toward Thailand which risks becoming the object of international ridicule.  Then when it comes of hosting future events such as beauty contests, international organizers will think twice and then simply shun Thailand.

Using defamation laws in this manner is a classic "own goal."  🏆

I'm sure that Thailand will enjoy this kind of publicity in the main-stream press.  Calmer minds should have cautioned him to understand that what flies in Thailand risks inciting open ridicule and scorn in international circles. I can guarantee who the international community is going to side with - Miss Mexico.  Then good luck hosting future Miss Universe pageants.

First we have to see what the Thai prosecutor will do before we comdem Thailand.

Any other examples of abuse of the deformation law? Except the American who abused the workers at a Koh Chang Hotel?

Only because he didn't want to accept a normal cork fee

I don't know about these things, but what if the Thai organiser isn't at fault here? If the organiser paid a large amount of money to be able to run the contest, there is obviously the need to regain income via promotional activities and those promotional activities would be part of the contract.

Did the Mexican contestant not feel the need to take part in those duties? Did she imagine that it was a real contest or did she know that it was to be rigged and that it did not matter what she did?

You are correct, but i think its already to late for Thailand, it is already a  joke !!

The TAT should sue the presenter for damaging the image of Thailand on an international stage. They pearl clutch about drunken Brits, katoeys and Indians on Beach Road, but that's got nothing on the damage caused by the presenter.  Have a bean counter cook up an estimate and keel haul the presenter into making restitution.

All he is doing is pouring gasoline on a fire, he'll get burned badly if keeps this up.

Truth is not a defense in Thailand's "criminal" Libel Law. Or at least it needn't be if the judge so chooses. Previous convictions (which can result in imprisonment - due to the 'criminal' nature) have been handed down out of a notion that regardless of true/false, the person has been defamed (lost face publicly) and maybe even more so if a serious allegation that is true - because now everyone knows about it..

IMO, this is the law that needs to be scrapped more than any other in this country. It is clearly designed to keep the majority silent - and gives the rich minority a very big club to enforce it.

Actually, the opposite will happen. No one (media) will dare to repeat the idiot's remarks again or Miss Mexico's criticisms of his remarks about her. Because, in doing so, they would be repeating the 'libel' in question, which is criminal in Thailand and can result in imprisonment - even for those who report on it. He knows this ridiculous law is on his side. Note how the media never report the name of a hotel where some farang does a nose dive or the name of a company or school where an immigration raid has netted a bunch of illegal workers. It's because the media can be charged with criminal libel for sullying their name in connection with the incidents.
