THAILAND - People’s leader Nattapong Ruengpanyawut announced today that the reformist People’s Party aims to become the largest elected camp in the approaching general election. This declaration follows the dissolution of the House of Representatives by caretaker Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul due to stalled constitutional amendment efforts. The party is gearing up for the election, anticipated to be held on February 8, with a focus on solidifying its political presence and avoiding past betrayals.

In a strategic push, Nattapong outlined plans for nationwide campaigning, unveiling policy platforms and candidates competing for key positions, including prime minister. The general election must occur within 60 days of the House dissolution, with the Election Commission tentatively selecting February 8 as the date.

Nattapong stressed the importance of presenting clear policies designed to benefit the people and the party’s commitment to establishing a government untainted by behind-the-scenes dealings.

The party intends to field candidates across all constituencies, aiming to secure both constituency-based and party-listed positions. Political observers suggest considerable competition with major players like Bhumjaithai, Pheu Thai, and Klatham parties, led by influential figures Newin Chidchob, Thaksin Shinawatra, and Thammanat Prompao, respectively. Nattapong's party, arising from the remnants of previous political groups, is seeking a fresh start with renewed vigour.

The decision to dissolve the House allowed Anutin to sidestep imminent censure debates and potential votes of no-confidence against him following controversies over legislative power among senators. The controversy stemmed from a legislative move, supported by ex-Bhumjaithai MPs, to grant one-third of senators decisive power in constitutional amendments. Nattapong expressed no regret over the dissolution, interpreting it as a necessary step for future political stability and clarity, reportednThai Newsroom.

This turn of events could reshape Thailand's political landscape, with potential shifts in power dynamics among the leading parties. The People's Party remains determined to establish itself as a formidable force in parliament, emphasising independence and resilience in the face of past political challenges.

Key Takeaways

  • The People’s Party aims to be the largest in the upcoming election.
  • The election is likely set for February 8 following the House dissolution.
  • Former alliances and power structures could see significant shifts.

There is 2 sure things in the coming election. The Peoples Party will have a huge win but it won't long as they will be given their marching orders again. Will we have another coup?

  • Popular Post

I wish them well - but, remember last time, out gunned by the establishment, can't have the young riff-raff in charge.

While it would be wonderful to see them romp to a win, the real leaders are not about to give up power yet. It would also probably end up a woke fest like the West. 🙄

I really hope they win with soo many votes they can govern alone with no other parties needed... It would be the best for the country..at last rid of all the dinosaurs and army.. but  we all know that these old and elite will never accept that the people will take over, because they have lost control and so their extreme wealth

The old elites or the army will come up with some sort of rules they violated if they win cant have young people running thailand too many snouts in the trough there will be no reform without New blood its a pity really

If the People Party win with with a sweeping majority everyone should shut up and let them do what they are trying to achieve. If they fail there's always the election after to get rid of them in a democratic way. Give them chance, I hope I'm wrong but I very much doubt it.

I hope they are not worse than what came after Prayut.

I read the article as the PP stating they will be doing no deals with anyone, but trying to win on their own. Good luck to them.

Every election they are learning to avoid more and more of the tricks used to stop them governing.

They have spent the time since the last election building a grassroots base in most every province and even amphur in most of Thailand. They are dedicated to real change. Hopeful of a sweeping majority this time. It is possible I really do believe. Dont forget what an aging society Thailand is. Now may be the right time to drive the old dinosaurs into extinction.

The challenge this time is different as there is no Senate involvement.  All they need is to win the majority of the seats.  To me, there are 2 questions.

How many seats will PTP lose?

How many seats will BJT win?

PTP supporters are I think, tired of the Shin family

BJT has usually only won where ChidChob can spread his money

A 3rd question may be how much Ab<deleted> can recharge teh Dem

People’s Party Plans Major Comeback in Upcoming Election

Not sure how a "comeback" is a thing after a victory. Only thing coming back will be the corrupt establishment's EC and CC or the army after the PP victory. Even with an absolute majority forming government is no guarantee in this corrupt system.

Whoever takes over needs to distance themselves from the unelected influence of the WEF, UN etc, otherwise Thailand will loose it's identity just like the majority of Nations throughout the world.

I personally don't want a change to western, woke ideals.

That's why I choose to live in the Kingdom.

The problem for them is that they need to win at least 350 to 400 seats, which will give them an overall single party majority with some spares for illness etc plus EVERY MP will have to turn up to parliament for every House session.

TBH I cannot see this happening, as there are too many political parties, with too many self interested MPs, with too many vested interests.

I hope they keep the monarchy out of the campaign this time...

Wish them all the best - hopefully they get the same results as the last election if not better but no skulduggery or stupid trumped up charges like before - bet the other parties crapping themselves & trying to dig up whatever they can & use every "rule" legal or not to stop them gaining power like last time! 😣

The people in power should be the party that the people, the voters elected by their vote, regardless of the dinosaurs not accepting or liking it - times are a changing hopefully but won't hold my breath especially with the Senate arses being involved

I hope they achieve this,  but I fear the Election Commission and its dinosaur establishment will somehow f ind something to ban them and use Rule 112 as an excuse.

It seems like we all know there needs to be change, except those that have the most to lose monetarily. We can only hope for the best, but prepare for the worst as in the past election.

Link up with Democrats for a viable PM. Get Abhisit to head up the draft amendments -

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned how PP sold out the people to back Anutin as President. If any party needs to take responsibility for the present war with Cambodia the PP do.

Let’s hope when they win again that this time there will be no interference by those who detest their ambitions ! The time has come for change Thailand needs leaders with integrity , honesty and ambitions !

No matter what happens, somebody will find some dirt, disqualify the Peoples Party, then install a Military/Elite government......Rinse, Repeat.

Firstly they need to win by a clear majority , something they could not do in the previous election . I think this manufactured border conflict actually hinders this . i hope im wrong but not betting on it happening .
