EU will move Ukraine membership forward

Featured Replies

  • Popular Post

In an unprecedented move, the European Commission will move Ukraine's membership process forward at a technical level despite Hungary blocking official talks on accession.

Under the new plan, technical progress means Kyiv will push ahead with reforms needed to meet the EU's eligibility criteria and EU staffers will assess Ukraine's progress in aligning with EU laws and standards in areas like judicial independence. This circumvents Budapest's veto on opening formal negotiations.

The EU's enlargement commissioner Marta Kos told DW she received "clear instructions" from ministers of European affairs at an informal meeting in Lviv earlier this week, to advance Ukraine's bid.

"I'm very, very happy and encouraged to go even faster in this process," she told DW.

Of course it is. Let's start a war. It will take people's mind off of the existing economic and social problems that Europe is currently dealing with. Yes, that'll do the trick🤦

After Germany re-arms ..... who wants to bet they go through Poland to get to Russia (again)?

And if they do, will the UK declare war on Germany (again)?

What was that about history repeating itself ............

Removing Hungary's right to a veto for starters.

Except that Hungary's veto hasn't been removed. I suggest that you re-read the article more carefully.

If you read other sources then  it would become clear to see that  removing Hungary's veto is a suggested method to pave the way for Ukraine's fast track into the EU..if their veto is removed then I think that is  yet more illegal shenanigans.

It might be a suggested method but it will be extremely difficult to achieve.

From Google AI:

"Changing the EU's unanimity (veto) rule requires either a complex Treaty amendment (unanimously agreed and ratified by all members) or using "passerelle" clauses to shift specific areas to Qualified Majority Voting (QMV), but even using passerelles often needs unanimity to activate, making change difficult despite strong push for QMV in foreign policy and enlargement to speed up decisions".

You think too much, you are a Putinite.............😒

Poutine for us. When a dictator comes to power, unfortunately, NATO has not considered how to blackball that country. Of course, the people of that country will still get NATO's defence.
