i apply for a re-entry permit last week and was planning to fly out for a few week holiday, something came up and cannot leave, how long does the re-entry permit last or it doesn't matter as long as i have it i can leave at anytime

The reentry permit will have expiry same as current permission of stay stamp. 

You can use it anytime while it's valid
