South Korea Embassy Rejects Thai Woman’s Entry Denial Claim

The South Korean Embassy in Thailand has rejected claims by a Thai woman that she was unfairly denied entry to South Korea, stating that immigration officials acted in line with established procedures. The case, which circulated widely online and was reported by Thai media, prompted clarification from the embassy on 6 January 2026. Officials said the denial was based on unclear travel purpose and missing required documentation.

According to the embassy, media reports had cited a Thai civil servant who complained on social media that she was denied entry at Incheon International Airport despite being well prepared. The woman said she received no clear explanation from immigration authorities. The claim attracted public attention and raised concerns among Thai travellers planning visits to South Korea.

After reviewing the case, the embassy said the Thai woman and another Thai female traveller did not have a hotel reservation upon arrival. When questioned by immigration officials, both women said they intended to stay at the home of a Korean boyfriend. The embassy confirmed that the boyfriend was not in South Korea at the time of their arrival.

The embassy further stated that the boyfriend’s mother had been listed as a contact person in South Korea. However, when contacted by immigration authorities, she said she was not aware of the women’s travel plans or that they intended to stay at her home. As a result, officials determined that the purpose of entry was unclear.

Based on these findings, South Korean immigration officials denied the women entry into the country. The embassy said that questioning and explanations at the airport were conducted in Thai, with a Thai interpreter present throughout the process. It added that the procedures followed were consistent with immigration regulations.

The embassy also addressed the wider implications of the case, warning that some travellers who are denied entry later post false or incomplete information online. It said such accounts can misrepresent South Korea’s immigration process. The embassy cautioned that these distortions may cause unnecessary concern among Thai travellers and could affect long-standing relations between Thailand and South Korea.

Khoasod reported that the embassy did not indicate any change to existing entry requirements or procedures. It reiterated the importance of travellers ensuring that their travel purpose and accommodation details are clear and properly documented before arrival. The statement aimed to clarify the situation and reduce misunderstandings regarding immigration decisions.
