A Thai woman who said she is a civil servant has reported being denied entry to South Korea, describing an upsetting experience at immigration upon arrival at Incheon Airport. She shared her account anonymously in a Korean travel group on social media, where her post quickly drew attention among Thai travellers. The immediate impact was her forced return to Thailand despite what she said was a fully prepared trip.

According to the post, the woman said she arrived with a clear travel plan and supporting documents, including proof of employment and evidence of her intention to return to Thailand. She said she was taken to a waiting room inside Incheon Airport’s immigration area before being sent back. A photograph accompanying her post showed the waiting area where she said she was held.

The woman wrote that Korean immigration officials did not give a clear reason for either the inspection or the decision to refuse her entry. “I feel very disappointed and hurt by this trip. Korean immigration gave no clear reason for the inspection or the decision,” she wrote. She also complained about the conduct of a specific officer, adding, “Especially the female officer at the central desk, I don’t know what she was upset about, but she was rude to me for no reason.”

She said her travel purpose was legitimate and that she had prepared all required paperwork. “I had a clear itinerary, a stable job as a civil servant and all the documents ready for inspection,” she wrote. “In the end, I was not allowed to enter. If I had known, I would have gone to Japan instead. I shouldn’t have wasted my time here.”

The woman added that she was particularly frustrated because she had already exchanged Korean won for the trip but was unable to use any of it. Her post was tagged with “#Incheon” and prompted extensive discussion online. Many users shared similar experiences or debated entry requirements and the broad discretion held by immigration officers.

Khoasod reported that among Thai travellers, South Korean immigration is widely known to be strict, with tourists often advised to prepare detailed documentation such as hotel bookings, return tickets, proof of employment and financial statements. South Korean immigration authorities have not publicly commented on the specific case. Under international practice, immigration officers may deny entry to foreign nationals if they believe entry conditions are not met, even when formal requirements appear to have been satisfied.

She knows why, but she will not tell.... She doesn't want to loose face and as always the others are the culprits.. She will not be denied for nothing

They only have themselves to blame
