Russia Cheers as Trump Eyes Greenland in Bold Move

Russia is expressing unexpected support for US President Donald Trump’s plan to annex Greenland, as revealed in Russian government media, sparking tensions across Europe. Trump's claims of Russian and Chinese military interest in the Arctic have led him to underline the strategic importance of Greenland for the United States. This bold plan is creating friction with European allies who oppose the US acquisition of the island.

Russian media, particularly the state newspaper Rossiyskaya Gazeta, has praised Trump's potential move, critiquing European leaders for their resistance. Describing European opposition as "mock solidarity," the publication suggests that Trump's annexation of Greenland would mark a historic win for the US, elevating it to the second largest country by area after Russia. The paper also links Trump’s success with Greenland to greater political influence in the upcoming midterm elections, suggesting it would bolster Republican support.

Moscow's support for Trump's controversial initiative appears to be strategic, seeing the potential division within the Western alliance as beneficial. Trump's Greenland obsession has strained US-European relations, offering Russia an opportunity to gain leverage in its geopolitical aims, including its ongoing conflict with Ukraine. The Russian tabloid Moskovsky Komsomolets eagerly highlighted Europe's perceived disarray, viewing it as advantageous for Kremlin ambitions.

As tensions grow, the prospect of US action on Greenland remains uncertain. Still, Trump's determination could reshape international alliances, with Russia seemingly eager to capitalise on any resulting discord. The coming months may reveal whether Trump's plans move forward and how Europe and other global powers respond, reported the BBC.

Key Takeaways:

  • Russia supports Trump's Greenland ambitions, praising his bold moves.

  • Trump's Greenland plan strains US-European relations, benefiting Russia.

  • Moscow aims to exploit Western divisions for strategic advantage.

"... with Russia seemingly eager to capitalise on any resulting discord..."

This is the key takeaway for me!

Russian state media praising the idea tells you everything - surely, their primary interest has never been a stronger America, but a divided West and disbanded NATO.

Russia's "support" for Trump's Greenland idea is nothing more than a case of positive reinforcement for detrimental action. Praising Trump's actions will only embolden him all the more.

Brilliant propaganda on Russia's part!

For the umpteenth time, Trump shows he is owned by Putin.

Trump needs Greenland to protect US national security from a Russian threat, and Russia supports Trump in this.

Putin knows exactly how to play with baby Trump.

Isolating America from it's former friends will make Russia stronger. Great move.

Putin must feel something akin to pure joy as he watches his asset destabilize the free world his man has performed incredibly well for putin…for us Americans and the rest of the democratic world not so much.hopefully it ends soon article 25 or his diet I don’t care,it needs to stop.🛑 never in my worst imagination could I see my country like this.

Putin doesn't need an "asset" (what a fatuous word) to achieve his aims in his part of the world. Nato is, and has always been, a genuine threat to the Soviet Union and now Russia. He (Putin) claims that Nato is a threat to Mother Russia, in the same way that Trump claims that China is a threat to Uncle Sam.

What was that line from Napoleon? something about don't interrupt your enemy when he is making a mistake? Cheering on is okay, I gues

Russia cheering Trump on. What else do you need to know? Time to kick Trump out with the 25th Amendment before he causes even more damage.

IMHO, the Greenland invasion by US troops, putting them at odds with Europe, raising tariffs on those European countries not supporting the presidents (Putin's) plan to wipe out NATO and giving Putin and his army free reign to move into any of those countries on his border. They probably discussed this plan when they met in Alaska and then later had a reportedly 2-hour phone conversation to finalize the plan. In any case, the situation resembles the beginning of WWII but this will most likely be much uglier if DJT is allowed to follow through on this plan for Greenland (and then Canada, Mexico, Cuba, can join Venezuela) as US-extended IMHO. Against the US Constitution as IMHO the Congress will wake up soon and stop him hopefully.

Or by God's providence.

I have tried asking him but so far he hasn't got back to me.

Comrade Krasnov will surely win a dozen medals and a home in a mental hospital on the outskirts of Moscow for his unfailing work in bringing the West to its knees.

Bravo Comrade Krasnov!

The moronic mental man-baby Trump has done so much damage to the freer world and international relations and security alliances that it's essentially incalculable.

All Americans should hang their heads in deepest shame that this is the best they could come up with in free elections.

S/He/It will don't worry.

S/He/It will say (I guarantee this): Yes, or No, or Wait not yet.

Looks like not yet right now.

You're welcome 555

'Former friends' being the operative concept here. Trump with the encouragement of the 77 million has taken the US away from its friends and allies, not the other way round. After this lot it will take at least a generation for it to regain any meaningful trust no matter who you put in charge.

In the meantime we Europeans will do worse but OK. As opposed to the US and UK still clinging on to the past, we are very adaptable and keep moving forward.

Treaty of the Danish West Indies - Wikipedia

To put a little historical context on this - Denmark sold the Danish West Indies (now known as the U.S. Virgin Islands) to America in 1917 for 25 million USD. In the same treaty USA recognised that Greenland was a sovereign territory of.........Denmark.

By the way Epstein Island is a part of the U.S. Virgin Islands - just an interesting side fact.

I hope one day we all find out the dirt that Putin has on Trump that makes Trump kiss Putin's ass and do all the damage that the orange felon does on a daily basis

I do not want to think about how gross that disclosure must be given the enormity of the damage his actions are doing now and his disgraceful personal actions that we know about!!
