Third World Banking With Bangkok Bank

Featured Replies

My wife just tried to do something at her local branch that involves her account at another branch and for which she needs a signature card with the application.

The clerk told her that they have a limit and that her customer already reserved she cannot give my wife a signature card.

Firstly, what's with one branch competing with another branch?

Secondly, if my bank ever treated me like this I would withdraw all my money on the spot.

Thirdly, what's with Thais simply accepting this and leaving without any complaints?

Clearly a bank employee seems to recognise her own set of customers as being more important than another and that's just unacceptable to me. When you allow this sort of discrimination to exist you end up supporting "special favours."

If I was that branch manager I would instantly reprimand this employee for creating the notion of a "2nd class customer."

been bangkok bnk 3 yrs now used many branches throught los no prop even have internet accsess but i suppose you always get the one who is different

third world banking? Ever tried walking into any UK high street bank? Now THAT is third world banking!

Instead of railing against what is, maybe you could find a way to make the system work for you. I suggest you speak to and befriend the bank manager.

Got to say I've never had anything but excellent service from all banks in Thailand, particularly Bangkok Bank. As samran suggested, even as a UK citizen I had much more hassles opening an account over there after a three year absence than I had here.

The only issues I've faced with Bkk Bank was a communication problem which, this being Thailand and they were speaking Thai, is my fault, not theirs.

No, Bangkok Bank has some issues. Like cashing bank drafts drawn ON THEIR OWN BANK, FROM YOUR OWN ACCOUNT, at BB branches in other provinces. They'll put a 3 day hold on it. They also like to slip a stupid fee in sometimes. You need a "go to" person, like most everything else here. After you see how the game is played, it's not that hard to get what you need done.

well my wife called the customer care number that you can ring and they told her that tomorrow they will give her a signature card at that same branch but I find the whole thing just annoying. It should not have been necessary to make a separate trip just because a clerk there wants to restrict who can have a signature card.

Basically the clerk wants to only give the signature card to those people opening accounts at her branch. Despite the fact that my wife is a customer of that branch they wouldn't allow her to use a signature card to operate on her account in another branch at another province. I'm sorry but all branches should be equal WRT to how they treat the customer. I understand that in Thailand you cannot do everything at all branches but holding signature cards just for potential local customers is out of order.

Secondly they told my wife that she should go to another branch to get a signature card not this branch. Now wouldn't it be a big surprise if another branch told her exactly the same thing. I'm sorry but if you value your customers you don't tell them they have to go to another branch to get something that is currently available at their own local branch.
