Windows 10 - On screen Message - Client is running - Looking for help

Featured Replies

My 86 year old next door neighbor ( Tom ) , who is not very computer savvy , has asked me to help. Ive had a look at Tom's Windows PC , but as a Mac computer man , I'm struggling to find an answer. Tom has an application all ready installed on his Windows PC , that he's been using for a long time now, without any past problems . Now when Tom tries to start that application by clicking the desk top icon , a warning comes the on desk top saying ( the client is running ) . After seeing that ( the client is running ) I have tried to locate that running app , without any success. So I'm hoping some one here can point me in the right direction to locate the all ready running app. I have turned off Tom's PC and restarted it several times, but the same desk top warning keeps appearing , and Ive also stopped and restarted the app in question , but again the same result ( the client is running ) .

What app is it? Name please.

Sometimes programs keep status in a db or file and think it's still running - would be a pretty crappy app that can't recover from that though.

So perhaps it truly is running in which case you can run something like 'sysinternals process explorer' (google it) and 'kill the process' if it really is running.

Name that app though.

Press Cntrl + Shift + Esc ... that will start the Windows Task Manager... all currently running tasks should be shown.

If you need more details you'll have to wait for a response from those with more recent Windows experience... I abandoned it for Mac years ago.

Right click on the Task Bar at the bottom of the screen, then click on "Task Manager" to show just about every thing that's running

Right click on anything that's suspicious to give menu of options.

😀

Thanks, the app is called '' Imou '' and it allows you to connect to a Imou WiFi camera thats on the same WiFi network as your computer , Tom has a Imou WiFi camera on his house gate , which he's been able to connect to in the past ( by clicking the desk top icon ) , but now when Tom clicks the desk top icon , the warning comes on screen ( the client is running ) , but that running app cannot be found

Link below to the camera web site

Thanks, I had a look with the task manager , and it showed 3 of the same apps running at the same time. So I stopped all of them , restarted the computer, and this time , only one app was running as normal. So it looks like the problem has been fixed.

A thank you to you and every one else who posted a comment, its appreciated.

.

Also consider in the future that many apps minimise to the 'task bar' - this little thing in the corner :

image.png

When you click it - it will popup with little mini icons and you can often right click and quit them....

Also doing a full restart on Windows is different to a shutdown in some instances - I won't go into it in great detail but there's differences between 'restart' and shutdown / reboot and it's related to drivers / hibernation - it hides what it does.

A full restart can clear up issues not cleared by shutdown/reboot....

You should also have a look in "Settings", look for "apps" and then "startup" to check if the app is listed.

If so it would be better if disabled and started manually when required.

1.Press Ctrl + Alt + Delete at the same time and it will open a box ……go click to Task Manager.

Find the application that is running in background and click on it and task.

Υou can also do it by pressing Windows +R and type in the box: servicesmsc

in order to open Task Manager and find the program that is running in background to to stop it (and task)

Second :

At search box type cleanup ………and click on disk clean up ……..afterwards ……press the clean option to stop any pc process.

I usually tick all boxes on the left to clean up my disk.

what is Ctrl +Alt +Del, and what's it used for?
