Shock Attack On Synagogue Site

Three suspects have been charged after four ambulances belonging to a Jewish charity were set on fire in north London in a disturbing overnight attack.

The vehicles, operated by volunteer emergency service Hatzola, were torched in the car park of a synagogue in Golders Green in the early hours of March 23, triggering alarm within the local Jewish community.

Arrests Across East London

Two men — Hamza Iqbal, 20, and Rehan Khan, 19 — along with a 17-year-old boy who cannot be named for legal reasons, have been charged with arson with intent to damage property and recklessness as to whether life was endangered.

All three were arrested at separate addresses in east London following a coordinated police operation. They are due to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court.

Counter-Terror Probe Underway

Counter-terror police are leading the investigation, although the Metropolitan Police say the incident has not been formally declared terrorism at this stage.

Two other men, aged 45 and 47, were previously arrested in connection with the case and have since been released on bail.

Community On Edge During Passover

The attack has heightened fears, particularly as it targeted a volunteer-run emergency service that provides care to anyone regardless of faith.

Police have increased patrols in areas with large Jewish populations, with officers stressing the move is precautionary during the Passover period rather than a response to any specific threat.

Support And Caution

Senior officers praised the response from the community, describing support as “incredible” as the investigation continues.

Authorities have also urged the public to avoid speculation, stressing that criminal proceedings are now active and all defendants are entitled to a fair trial.
