Thaivisa Approved By Thai Govt To Provide Insurance Services

Featured Replies

Yes, so what I'm asking is: are you noted as an approved insurance company for the pupose of getting a VISA to a Schengen-state?

We would like to state we are not an insurance company, we are insurance brokers. However the companies we deal with are approved.

Ok, great. Will bring it up with the wife.

"The "insurance" you pay every month for your WP will be for the Gov. security fund and is a very basic cover. Best to get the ThaiVisa 'Low Cost' option for extra cover in private hospitals."

I don't consider Soc Sec to be 'a very basic cover(sic)'. They offer a wide range of benefits. If you're working here you should be in the system. They have brochures in English.

I was given a choice of about 7-9 hospitals to choose from. I chose a private hospital. The only time I've had to pay anything was when I was an inpatient and opted for a private room instead of the semi-private room the coverage payed for. I think it was about 400 B per day.

They also pay for 100% of prescribed medicines, and I use that monthly.

The only things I've found not covered are condums and Viagra.

Soc Sec does not, however, cover spouses.

Oh, almost forgot. Thai Soc Sec does cover pre-existing conditions.

May I make a, I believe, sensible suggestion, this is a forum which is know for its dynamic. Leg pulling and joshing are the norm here. As a presenter of a new service, which I have already said has possible advantages for the membership, it seems foolish in the extreme to treat the kind of inevitable ribbing with a draconian erasure policy. Why not answer by explaining the benefits as you see them? This will allow everyone to form a view as to the applicability of the services to their individual circumstances.

Wholeheartedly agree with all of you. I love Thaivisa, can we not assist to help you make it better?

Please tell me more about collector car insurance.

What is a "old collector car", who determines value, % coverage, underinsured motorist protection etc etc etc.........

We do all types of motor insurance plus a Class 1 (fully comp.) for old collectors cars.

There will be people here answering questions when the service is launched by Monday.

Is one really meant to trust an internet forum to provide reliable insurance? Sorry but I would trust a large company such as Bupa or even Thai Health long before I trusted an internet forum to provide me with insurance cover.

Can't see many takers on this one.

We are not providing the insurance itself. We do the marketing and get a small commission.

I think every Thai family has at least one insurance sales person in their clan.

Good luck then, I suspect competition will be tough.

It's been stated that ThaiVisa is simply a broker, providing a front end to insurance facilities here. I can see that, as I stated earlier, since there are few customer facing process available {except in Thai} that for those who do not have access to credit cards {assume payment by ATM} or wish to obtain local cover, such a service could be of benefit. E.g.: local accident insurance is relatively cheap but some companies will not issue unless the applicant has a WP, whilst others will issue on long term visas. Few of the companies provide internet services, since they operate through a tied agent {& broker} scheme.

Insurance in Thailand is regulated. Any agent {or broker}, who must be a Thai citizen, must take an examination and upon passing it is issued with a licence to provide services.

If one has insurance connexions through family or lawyer then this may not be of great interest. As I say I can see the marketplace but it is one which is strongly contested. I do wish the project well and hope the niche is of sufficient size to make it viable.

Regards

/edit PS The main target of the Thai market though is the long term life policy {dubious investment IMO} so providing general insurance as a focus may well be better//

Sorry, I would trust UK Bupa, not the Thai copy...

Whatever, is there an addon to the social security existing insurance to make it better?? non expiring???

AS I am sure you know, Thai insurances are very good in kicking members out of their service incase of regelar costs arising....

If you essentially bring in a large group of people you can I hope make it suitable for farangs....

Im a little uninformed about insurance, I pay 1500 baht each month because of my work permit (mandatory) for some sort of health insurance, is there a way to get rid of that and get yours instead? I certainly dont want to pay for both...

Damian

that sounds like the government social security fund. Your employer should have provided you with a social security card. If you haven't got it, ask for one.

It is compulsory for all workers, it gives you access to Thai public hospitals, up to 8000 baht refund for birth of a child, access to a thai pension after x years, and 100 baht per child child per month, and other bits an pieces. Good for using as ID to get into places at Thai prices, as it proves your residency here (along with your tax ID).

1500 per month out of your pay packet is high though. It is a maximum of 750 out of yours and then the employer has to match it with another 750...but that second lot of money should come from them, not you!!!

I found that as company owner ( a small one) I am better off paying both parts of the insurance instead of expecting emploiees to find half. The thai part isnt the peoblem anyway!!

Personally I think its worth it even if to make it better they should stick everyone in it. (Thais at least) and if there is an upgrade even better.)

I notice that you say that one gets 100 baht per month for children? Who claims, father or mother?

If it is the father paying into the SS system, then it is the father. You have to be in the system for 7 months first though. For us, I started a new job in thailand 6 months before our baby was due, so I missed out on the 'baby bonus'. Then I quit my job after our baby was born, working offshore, so no 100 baht per month for me now.

Sounds good to me, but NO GOOD for me - I'm 70.
