Le Minh Hung has been elected as Vietnam's Prime Minister for the 2026-2031 term. This decision was made by the National Assembly on Tuesday afternoon. Le Minh Hung succeeds Pham Minh Chinh, becoming the country's 10th prime minister since 1945.

Hung, 56, hails from Ha Tinh Province and holds advanced degrees in public policy and French. He has been a significant political figure, serving two terms on the Politburo and the Party Central Committee's Secretariat, and three terms on the Party Central Committee. His career began in 1993 at the State Bank of Vietnam, where he interacted with the International Monetary Fund, and underwent extensive training in market economy and financial analysis.

He climbed the ranks within the banking sector, holding key roles that culminated in his appointment as Deputy Governor in 2011 and then Governor in 2016. Later, he served as Chief of the Office of the Party Central Committee and eventually led the Party Central Committee's Organization Commission in 2024. His tenure there involved restructuring efforts and the development of a two-tier local government system by 2025.

Now as Prime Minister, Hung will continue to influence Vietnam's political landscape with his experience in advisory roles and organizational reforms. Experts predict stability, given his history of competence in both financial and political realms, marking his trajectory as one poised for continuity.

Looking forward, Hung’s leadership will focus on sustaining Vietnam's economic growth and institutional reforms. He is expected to play a pivotal role in the country's development strategy through the 16th National Assembly term.
