Vietnam has experienced a significant increase in Russian tourist arrivals due to visa-friendly policies, direct flights, and its appealing warm climate. In the first quarter, over 367,000 Russians visited Vietnam, making them the third-largest source market after China and South Korea. This number is nearly triple the same period in 2025, reaching a record high.

Improved accessibility, such as a 45-day visa exemption for Russian citizens and more direct and charter flights, has played a major role. Vietnam's reputation as a safe destination amid global uncertainties further boosts its attractiveness. Long-standing ties between the two countries and Vietnam's offerings, including beaches and competitively priced luxury resorts, continue to draw Russian visitors.

Laurent Myter of The Anam Group highlighted the importance of restored direct flights in driving record tourist numbers. Enhanced connectivity, especially with resumed charter flights from Moscow to destinations like Cam Ranh and Phu Quoc, has opened up new opportunities. Russian tourists now constitute 15% of bookings at The Anam Group properties, enjoying beach holidays and longer stays.

Vietnam's cost-effectiveness compared to other Southeast Asian destinations is also a key draw. Russian travelers tend to favor luxurious experiences, spending significantly on dining and premium services. Pham Ha of Lux Group noted that the shift towards mid- to high-end tourism shows Russian tourists' preference for quality, culturally rich experiences in Vietnam.
